Do Pets Go To Heaven

I know that the Catholic Church says that animals don't go to heaven, but every pet I have ever had they have distinct personality.
I can't imagine that a creature with a personality and some forward thought couldn't go to heaven...
I don't know... It just makes me sad to think I won't see my girl Hooch in heaven if the Catholics are right.

I agree with you. If he loves all his creations why wouldn't he want animals in heaven or where ever we go after here...
I mean, it just seems like one of those bureaucratic things that the Church decided on to divert attention from something else it was doing!

Uh, ok. This is actually a good question thae many people are confused about so therfore I shall share my view on this subject.
When we die our soul leaves our body, right? Right. Our souls are the spiritual part of us. We cannot see it be we know we have one. In order for animals to go to heaven then they would have a soul.
How can an animal have a soul? Tell me. Animals kill their own kind, most are not monogomous and my guess they cannot accept the word of Christ.
On top of that, Jesus came to save the sins of man, NOT animals. Therefore NO, animals do not go to heavan.

I believe that animals do go to heaven. Animals have memories and they show their likes and dislikes. To me that means that they have a soul, just as we do. I don't think that a loving God would not have animals in heaven. They are so innocent and pure. And I do believe that God is a loving God. I'm Catholic and I love my church and it's teachings. Our Priest blesses the animals every October on the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. And we get our dogs blessed every year. St. Francis was a great lover of all animals.

As a Catholic and a lifelong animal-lover, I have an insight for you that you might find useful.
The soul, as I've come to understand it, doesn't mean life or personality: it means the ability to choose between good and evil on a level of morality defined beyond the natural world. THAT kind of free will, not simply usual choice. I don't think you could imagine any of your pets CHOOSING good or evil in the true sense; they act on instinct, desires, and their emotions. Morality, the way humans perceive it, does not exist in the animal kingdom.
But just because I believe animals don't have souls doesn't mean I believe they vanish when they die. They are filled with life, and emotion, and love. They are real creatures, even if they don't have true free will. They came from a source, and when they die, they return to that source.
Now, whether we see them in Heaven or not I cannot say. I can say, however, that whatever the truth is, it is so satisfying and perfect that you would never want anything else. Perhaps you will see every animal ever made. Perhaps you will see every animal ever made as they exist in God himself. We won't really know until we get there.
I wouldn't worry about your dear Hooch. She's well taken care of by the big man upstairs.
