I just don't understand the point of some people here on mylot in setting up links/sites that corrupt other people's computer when others try to check out their profiles. Are these people either satisfying some sick pleasure or are some people just not aware that when other people click on some of the stuff they have on their profiles, for others to find out about them, they get bombarded with possible attacks (I say, possible because if you are not aware that you might be clicking on a malicious link and you don't have any type of protection on your computer, you can become a victim to things set up for this purpose). So far, I've had 3 separate incidents where I have clicked on links or websites where my (fairly new) laptop has just STARTED to go haywire with pop-ups or started acting like it was starting to download something when I finally was relieved to notice that my anti-virus had caught it and informed me that something had been detected and successfully deleted. Is there an explanation why someone would add such malicious things to their links, I really don't think it's for any kind of profit because if I had any kind of unsolicited ad pop up on my computer, I would not, say hey!, I want that! let me click on it and give them my info./business. By the way, I do have the pop-up blocker on, in case you might think this might be my problem.
To those who haven't experience any of this, please be very cautious on what you click on, in any of the interest categories, esp. "making money" & "computers"!

Pop ups wouldn’t exist if there was no money in it. Pop ups do work, they make sales, they get info or whatever they are after. It’s all in the numbers, as with spam. Nobody would bother using them just for fun. Doesn’t mean that I condone them, as I don’t condone spam. But there are people who buy from unsolicited emails as there are those who take out their credit card because of a pop up.
What anti-virus are you using, by the way, because you shouldn’t really be able to see the pop ups, since they get blocked with a good anti-virus.
