I think that we are too bountiful with our food supplies. From what I saw in daily life, our children don't really respect the availability of our food. Because they never have to worry about to be hunger in a single day. They experience the hungry in their stomach, and they never feel the desperation for food. Sometimes, I saw these children, especially teenagers, they discarded the food without finish them. What a waste. In reality, there were still millions of people still under hungry each day. We just don't feel the pain in their situation.
Since we are living in a strong country, we should also respect what we have, and stop wasting the food we have right now. So, parents, it is good to teach your children from their early age, respect what they have to eat.

I think it all depends on the upbringing of the children. I know that as parents, we certainly do not want our children to go hungry. But I always make sure that my boys understand the value of the food that they are eating and that they should are not allowed to waste it. Whatever they get, they should finish up. I also try to get them exposed to the poverty that is around them. If we see any street kids or people begging for food, whether on TV or in reality. I always remind them to be grateful for the things that they have and that they have enough food to eat.

Yeah, definitely I'll teach my children not to waste, not only food, but everything. Wasting is a bad habit. Resources are getting lesser and lesser, we need to save resources or any energy so that our future generations can still enjoy their lives on the beautiful earth. Firstly, I'll tell them about saving the environment, not to waste energy, papers, water, food and others. Although we are not living in poor country, we still need to save for our earth. I believe teaching them the good concept will lead them to build the good habit on not wasting. Also, we can always tell them stories about wasting food, how the poors survive, so that they can understand.
My baby is 3 month old now, I always talk to him about anything, he may keep these in his mind and slowly build the good habits.

This is a wonderful topic about not wasting food. I always tell my kids not to waste food and they've really learned. I always tell them that there are other people and children who unfortunately do not have simple dinners and lunches like we do here in the United States. Children these days need to appreciate their lunches and dinners because there are families out there who unfortunately are not able to afford a decent meal.

Yes, parents should teach a child from the very young age how to value food. They don't listen if you tell them only once or twice so we have to keep on reminding them. I use to tell them if we waste food God will punish us.We should show some expamles too by showwing pictures of hungery and poor people. In that way they will learn how previledge they are in getting everything they want.

My tactic with our daughter is to start out with small portions. Since kids go through so many growth periods they honestly fluctuate on how much food they need in thier diet. I won't stop her from finishing her extra portion we set aside if she's really still hungry, but a lot of times we save them for later or the next days lunch. It helps teach them not to waste what they have, while still sending the messege that thier is definately no need to overeat. Overweight children is a big problem in our country and I want to send the messege that it's important to be healthy and maintain a good body.

I always told my daughters that were children starving in other countries that would probably not make it through the night and to always think about them before throwing away a morsel of food. Now they are teenagers and of course they don't want to hear it but ever so often, I still remind them.
