Seaweed is found naturally in the salt water oceans and seas. You may think of seaweed as that stuff in the ocean that gets caught on your feet when you are wading. What exactly is seaweed? These are some seaweed facts: seaweeds are marine algae.we are eating some of them here in our place. we usually boil them and garnish with tomatoes and onions and a little of vinegar.Beneficial nutrients in seaweed
Some beneficial nutrients in seaweed include organic (photo-synthetic) vitamins, trace minerals, lipids, plant sterols, amino acids, omega-3 and omega-6, anti-oxidants, growth hormones, polyphenols, and flavenoids. Seaweed also contains Fucoidan, Laminarin, and Alginate compounds. Studies suggest that these are anti-biotic and anti-viral. Land plants do not contain these photochemicals.do you eat seaweeds?

Wow... that's very interesting information... yes, I do eat seaweeds.. they're yummy, delicious, and gooey... and they're really fun to eat.. I like to eat my fresh seaweeds (washed properly, of course), with minced onions, shredded ginger, minced green mangoes, some salt to taste, and lemon juice... Mmmm... really yummy!!!
I also eat the roasted seaweed that most Koreans use to wrap rice... I think that's called laver, to make sushi... it's really delicious... the seasoned version is crispy, crunchy, and breaks off easily... I roll the roasted seaweed with rice (that's flavored with lemon juice, salt, and sugar), strips of cucumber and carrots, and then slice the big roll with a moistened knife to make little sushi rounds... that recipe is a family favorite, and hardly a week goes by that we don't prepare and eat sushi...
Hmm... I ate seaweed because it was delicious, but I never thought it would contain such a lot of nutrients!! I guess that's how the fish remain so plump and healthy-because they sure do eat a lot of seaweed!! I'll be sure to eat a lot of seaweed next time!!!

not all fishes eat seaweeds.those that are herbivorous fishes eat seaweeds.Examples of these types of fish are the parrotfish and the surgeonfish. others just lay eggs to huge and old seaweeds.

i've searched that there is icecream out of seaweeds. i don't think i'd go for that now since the taste would definitely like sea water and obviously it would become a salty and sticky icecream.how would you probably like that?

Yes especially my husband and my two girls. We just like to eat them but surprised to know the numerous benefits of this stuff. We wash them thru hot water and just eat them with tomatoes or onions just like salad.

I don't eat seaweed though I live very close to the beach and see lots of it everyday. I used to pick it up dry it and add to my compost pile. I would love to try eating it, I looked at the picture of the one with all the round bubble like things, I don't have that kind here. Is that the only kind you can eat? I used to drink a beverage that had some kind of algae in it that was supposed to be wonderful for you. How nice it would be if I could just walk across the street and pick up greens for tonites dinner?

we don't throw them here since they cost expensive especially in city markets. if i have time to collect them, i would probably do and sell them to markets.sales will be like the pancakes here.they are more nutritious than green salads!

Yes, i do. i'm not really sure which kind but i do eat them. I think it's best when paired with grilled fish or any other grilled stuffs. It helps in beating taste fatigue perhaps. I do believe they're healthy. Wait, isn't gulaman or jello made up of dried seaweeds? I learned that from my sister. So i guess seaweeds can be fun too.

gulaman or jels are products from seaweeds. these just prove that seaweeds are economically important too. seaweeds now are also paired with daily products and other forms of carbohydrates like chocolates and milk.they even have it in icecreams.

I ate seaweed all the time in Korean restaurants. But I don't know much facts about Seaweed. I just knew that they were tasted good after marinated with some tasty sauce. I normally purchased them from the Asian Supermarket too, but they are much cheaper than order from the restaurants. Thanks for the information.

Yes! And there are so many kinds of them! I grew up near the sea and most if not all of the townsfolk eat those seaweeds. Most of it we eat raw whether with tomatoes and other garnishing or nothing at all. Seaweeds are really rich in many vitamins and minerals and i enjoy having them and also the seashells which are good source of iodine and zinc.

wow...never thoought that seaweeds have that many nutritional benefits... including antibiotic and anti viral... all i know is that it is rich in iodine and we have to eat it...
yes, i eat seaweeds since a child. and i need it more now because i have thyroid problems... sadly we dont find it here all the time, but whenever i do, i always buy it. we dont actually boil seaweeds, we only immersed it in boiling water for a while then cut it up in bite sized pieces, add vinegar, salt, chopped tomatoes and chopped onions, we eat it like that, seaweed salad.

hello friend,
i envy you people eating seaweeds. there's plenty in the market where i stay but it just doesnt soothe my palate. my daughter and everyone in the house eats it. but it seems i could not take the smell even if there's ginger, onion, vinegar and tomatoes and others are added to it. ive been trying to but when i start i get nauseated. i wish it wasnt like that.
but i do eat gelatin. i know it comes from that stuff.

Most definatly. Yummy. Seaweed and rice is sooo good and dried seaweed is better than potato chips when you have the urge for something crunchy.
I live right on the pacific coast and am deeply involved with the Haisla nation so I tend to eat alot of traditional foods. Oolicans and seaweed are probably my favorites.
Oh yeah, and herring eggs... mmmmm....

I eat seaweeds too because we are near in the sea but now i am in a city. I do not know what they call it but the seaweed i used to it is the round seaweed(green in color). We washed it with sea water and removed some rocks attached because we get it from rocks but others just in sand not rocks. We put vinegar in it and it all okay. I never tried to eat seaweeds with onion, lemon or ginger. Only plain vinegar and salt.
This is the link to the pic of seaweed we used to it:

yes, seaweed is a very good anti-oxidant! If you have a family histroy of cancer...better start on eating seaweeds! Some people don't like the taste of it, maybe try the dry ones then..they got a milder taste. Or try different flavor of them...they come in wasabi(which is realy realy good if u like sushi), or fruit flavors.. Have fun munching!!
