I've started working two years ago and although I'm still in my early twenties I'm thinking of buying a house or a condo for myself for the near future. But I don't know if it's ideal for me to buy now since prices are pretty expensive and I haven't quite saved that much yet.And I haven't decided if its better to buy a house or a condo unit. What do you think?

You are in your early twenties and two years old in the corporate world and worrying about buying a house or a condo? May I ask, do you have plans of settling down in a year or two? If yes, then I think it is proper to buy a house. Well, it is advisable to buy now while the prices are low. Besides, property prices goes high fast, so you can buy as early as now. If not, then perhaps invest on other things for now. Say put up a business while you are working. That will be a double earning on your part, then buy a house maybe when you are in your thirties. If you choose between a house and a condo, I would prefer the former.

As a rule, condos don't increase in value as well as single family homes do and you usually have to deal with a Condo Association and a bunch of rules that you may or may not agree with. If you're going to invest in real estate you should plan to stay in the home you purchase for at least five years so, if you plan to marry and start a family, I agree with the poster above me that a house would be a better investment. Condos are also harder to sell when the time comes because they are attractive to a smaller group of buyers than single family homes. There are some good deals out there right now but I predict that there will be better ones to come so waiting might be a good idea. There are also first time buyer programs in many states that assist with the cost of buying a home...they help with the down payment for instance...but you have to know what's out there in order to benefit. When I bought my first home I went to a real estate company and worked with an agent who knew what was out there in my price range and was familiar with different neighborhoods and communities so she helped me to find the right house and gave me information about the first time homebuyer programs available to me. The best part was that her services didn't cost me a dime. The seller pays a percentage of the sale price to the selling agent and, if the buyer also has an agent, that fee is split between the two of them.

If you're planning to start a family, it's better to get a house.

Houses are better, but a condo is for when your young, or cant afford a house.
