Red stains on clothings, why can't they be removed?

I have been thinking about the answer to this questions for ages now but I can't seem to find it in bite size and understandable chunks really. I got remembered to start this discussion because I just spilled some red fluid on my shirt and I wouldn't mind at all if someone would know how to save my shirt. What should I do?
