What does this mean when you see this message when you start up the computer?
The computer that i'm using display this message in start up and there's an option under saying Press f1 or F2. I press f2 then it will now start up.
When i look up in the date and time, it automatically set to January 3, 2003 and time will be at 12:00am. Does the message affect the date and time of the computer?
I do not know what is the problem. Is it the hard drive outdated?

The battery looks like a flat disk or button-shaped battery like you have in a watch, but much bigger. The CMOS stores certain info for the computer. I don't remember what all the info is but I do know it keeps up with the date and the time for the computer. That is why the computer's date and time are screwed up. My dad had a computer years ago that had the battery go out on it and the computer wouldn't start or at least it wouldn't load up windows. He took it to a computer specialist and found that the problem was the CMOS battery. Take your computer to a PC technician, if there is one in your area, and tell him what it is doing. he should just have to replace the battery and get you back on track.

Nothing wrong with your hard drive, I even have this problem and still cannot fix the problem even change my battery. You can try this step; Turn OFF the computer and unplug the power cord. Remove the On-Board battery. Move the jumper cap from pins 1-2 (default) to pins 2-3 (clear). Keep the cap on pins 2-3 for about 5~10 seconds, then move the cap back to pins 1-2. Re-install the battery with your new battery. Plug the power cord and turn ON the computer. Hold down the Del key during the boot process and enter BIOS setup to re-enter data. Please if you want to remove the jumper cap make sure put it with correctly to ensure not damage your tools. I hope this can help you....

Okay. The only thing is that, because i am not authorize to open the cpu and replace the battery, the computer technician is needed and at this time, the admin leave it, i am the one who use the computer for chatting purpose only, just because my webcam is not working in this computer and it works there. (Its weird that the 2 computer uses windows xp professional 2000 but in the current comp. i am using i can not install my webcam. It display a message that i may harm the computer if i continue to install, and one time i continue then when i run avast, the computer shut down and can not be on again, so the computer was reformat), meantime we did not use the computer because we have another one which work better than the other.
The thing that i get from here was, i got knowledge about CMOS and battery of the computer.
I am afraid to do it myself because i am not familiar of computer cpu's part. Just trust it to the computer technician.
