Just flicking through sky movies channels and "harry potter and the order of the phoenix", and it inspired this question. Books or movies?

I prefer the books they cut parts out of the films for obvious reasons, therefore you get more out of the books that you do the fims. Also it takes much longer to read the books so you get more suspense and excitment out of them!! I love the Harry Potter films too tho

Yep I agree. They do definatly cut massive chunks out which makes it not as true to the book, but obviously because of time reasons they cant keep it all in. I like the movies though, think they have been put together really well, im looking forward to when the next one is out!

Books. I've read all the books and they were great. Those books are pretty damn big but it never took me more than 2 days to read it.
Movies on the other hand...I've tried to watch it twice. It was so boring I couldn't finish it.

Hi there. I am a Harry Potter fan and have read all the books and to me, I would really prefer the books over the movies because it is in the book where I exercise my imagination and also because in the movies, the "magic" of the story has been already reduced to fit the duration of the movie. In the book is always the complete story, and so if you really want to know the full story, reading the book is highly suggested instead of just the movie. I am excited to see the movie this July and I hope I would not be disappointed.

I myself don't read much books, I have only read a few Harry Potter books and the intire twilight saga, I prefer the books because it leaves things for your imagination. But at the same time I am a kind of Movie person, love the special effects and it brings book back to live even more, So I am not sure which I would pick of the 2.

Although I don't like the fact that they cut a lot of good stuff from the books, when they turn them into movies, I do enjoy reading the books, as well as watching the movies. I really couldn't say if I have preference, as I enjoy reading the book and watch the movies. Both are really well done. The only thing that I'm disappointed with is that they seem to cut a lot of good plot and events, when they turn the novels into movies. Others I don't really have any complaints.

Depends on your taste really. But for me, it's books.
The advantage of movies, obviously, is that you don't need to imagine what is happening since you see it. You got special effects, awesome cinematography, the works. But since all movies are, at the most, limited only up to two hours or less... (the longest for me being "Braveheart" that is nearly three hours long) you are missing out a lot of details.
The book has more advantages, though you can't see with your eyes what is happening. You have to envision it. But the great part is that a lot of the "missing stuff" from the film is missing, and that detail about Cho Chang is much better than what the movie did.
Moreover, you get to be into the mind of Harry as he goes through school each year. But if you're "too busy" reading, try Jim Dale's reading of the Harry Potter Novels.
They're quite excellent and entertaining.
