Religious and personal freedoms make legislating against population growth a bad idea. I guess we just relax and let war, famine and pestilence thin us out when get too over-populated. Next question.

Maybe they should be creating new diseases instead? O, now I'm just getting evil! Bad, Heathcliff, bad!

I think it should, for the sake of comfort, resources, and future generations. Most problems in our civilization comes down to too many people.
Comfort is almost a petty reason, but what's better? A planet filled with scrunched up people, or a planet half full of people with some elbow room?
Resources is certainly most important, now. A dinner for four won't cut it for a family of six.
Future generations of people almost seems to contradict itself. But as someone already mentioned, when people are closer together diseases are quite easily spread. Not only that, but more easily created as well.
We can prevent it by collective responsibility. We no longer need to procreate at such an early age, because between evolution and modern science, we live much longer than we did at one point. We also don't need to have a whole group of kids, being the Octomom is becoming frighteningly common; Which is also irresponsible on a personal level.
I'm against Government intervention, no authority should tell you how many kids you can have, nor should they choose who can have kids. But, birth control methods should certainly be encouraged.

This has been a concern for many years. I think Japan has done an excellent job of using their space on planet earth to accommodate large populations. Now travel the western United States, Canada, and many other places. We can handle more people, we just need to learn how to love each other and excel at being individuals and then excel at caring for others. Each person on this earth is so special that there is no one else like them. I like to celebrate our humanity.

It will eventually slow down, the growing population as the worlds infrastructure becomes more unable to cope and we have to begin to live closer together there will be much more squalor and disease and many people will die as health conditions decline. That is what will happen if the worlds population suddenly increases, but hopefully we can adapt to the rising levels of people, otherwise that might just happen.
