Why Did Kamikaze Pilots Used Helmets?

I know lots of you have already seen this on the net..nonetheless, i would like to know your own opinion about this ironic question.. Why the hell did those guys checked the security issues if they were heading for certain death? Theres probably a most obvious answer, but i confess..i totally ignore it.. Peace
