Hi mylotters :) Do you prefer to travel light or do are you more secured with having a first aid kit while traveling? Personally I don't bring with me a first aid kit because it adds up to the weight of my baggages so instead I bring with me my rosary and I feel more secured with it ;) of course my camera and mp4 player to enjoy the trip ;)

I have a first aid kit at home, but don't bring one with me when I travel. That's actually a good idea. When I get some cash, I'll invest it in a smaller kit for travel purpose. I also take my rosary with me when I go places. Unfornately, when I changed it into another purse a few days ago, I saw it broke.

Oh gosh a broken rosary is usually a bad omen. I don't mean to scare you but just pray a lot and say sorry for having it broke accidentally..

Hi Cecille,
Totally agree with you that when we are travelling there is absolutely no need to carry a first aid kit! it definitely adds something to your baggage which could have been filled up with something else.
I also feel that we are just being toooo paranoid and foolish if we get on a first aid kit along with us. Remember first aid kits contain usualy very small things to just treat anything basically like a cotton mound, Plasters, Bandage and some ointments to treat the basic cuts and wounds. I guess these would be available anywhere in any kind of small medical shop!
If there really was any need to clean or bandage a small wound you can just run down the road and get some cotton and bandage or anything needed to immediately treat that small wound.
Moreover, First aid kits definitely are not something that would be needed to save a life! so why bother to take a big box along with you. Contents like bandages, cotton, band aids can definitely be put somewhere in our bag and also occupy neglible place!
Cheers and have a nice day!

Tsk tsk you just made a tie with the other responder here.. Now I couldn't suggest who should be the best responder.. But I agree with you, sometimes traveling by risks adds more to the fun. But if you're with family, it's better not to neglect their safety and comfort by bringing first aid kit.. Anyway, response appreciated and rated positive thanks.

I do carry first aid stuffs if not a proper first aid box. I am prone to cuts and falls and those come in handy and also I have found that those come quite handy with the kids around. I have been doing this since a child. I used to have a nice, proper Box and took pride in gathering all the stuffs.

Hmmmm, I only bring what I need for the trip and it usually doesn't include a first aid kit. Maybe if we were going to a nature tripping where when someone can actually trip and get hurt
If its a long trip, I guess I have to bring something to amuse me with.. music player, a handheld, cellphone if I need to or to be contact.. hmmm..

I only wish to travel with my friends and that is not often something that happens. I would like to travel and camping is involved but, a stay at some more convenient lodging is also a good idea (^_^ ) Ah, yes, money does make things better...

Oh well just like you, a music player, camera (even without cellphone) can make me going and I'm good with it. And of course, enough money.. Not unless it will be an adventure trip, I'll see to it that I'll bring with me my first aid kit. Thanks for the response, you must be a traveler too.

I usually bring a first kit when I travel. I have worked as a paramedic firefighter for about 13 years and obviously consider first aid kits as important. You can never tell when an accident happens or when someone get injured. It would be easier to provide assistance when you carry this things.

We never bring a first aid kit with us because usually where ever you go you aren't too far away from a pharmacy of some sort. I of course bring my medicine with me or like aspirin because when I travel by air I get ear aches and sinus problems. But other than that, I don't buy a first aid kit. I don't even have a first aid kit at home, just some band aids and neosporn...but then again it's only my boyfriend and I. When we have kids I bet I will have a first aid kit around.

I didn't know that traveling by air affects sinus problems. Do you also have a sinusitis?

Well my first aid kit is like 12 years old, came with my old 87' mercedes, does that count? No really, I have used it once when I cut my finger and I was shocked to open it and find band aids still in good condition. It fits into a little compartment under the back window. If it was not for this car having one I would not have really considered having one in my car until, probably, it was too late. I found the waterproof take the most useful.

I personally don't really bring first aid kit while traveling, just enough money would be okay I think. but I think it's a great idea to bring first aid kit especially when you're with family. Thanks for responding.

I just take a few items from the first aid kit. I then add some herbal remedies like some garlic oil capsules (colds & sniffles), charcoal capsules (food poisoning), a laxative. I was once told that travel causes a person to tense up and that can lead to constipation (sorry to be so blunt). That can ruin a few days of travel just by itself. It does not take much room to take a few essential supplies. I do not usually travel with more than one suitcase and a carry-on. I also like to take enough food in case there is a delay in flights. That has come in handy many times.

I would only bring along with me paracethamol incase if I get head ache and apart from that I would not carry along with me a first aid kit. Always confident that I will be able to get it if anything goes wrong. By the way, Thanks for post, i got a strike in my mind on how important is it to travel with a first aid kit.

Yes, I always bring my first aid kit with me when traveling. I have this small pouch where I store all my band-aids, medicines, etc. Anyway, I just bring a few tablets/capsules for the basic problems I may encounter, like fever, indigestion, headache, dizziness, diarrhea, stomachache, colds, and coughs. That is why my small pouch of first aid kit does not weigh much at all. The weight of my pouch is just like a hardbound novel. I always rest more easily if I know I have all the things I need or might need in case of emergencies.

Wow you must be really a careful person. Well I'm not really that type because it adds up to the heavy baggage. But of course, I admire those who are always ready and prepared for whatever might happen. Thanks for the response and take care

There is always a first aid kit in my car, so I have it when I travel that way. When going by plane, though, I only carry prescription meds with me. Like you, I prefer to keep the luggage as light as possible. : )

I have never travelled with a first aid kit. I expect the airline and emergency services to be doing that. i'm personally not a religious man so a rosary never accompanies me either. I am a light traveller. I mostly go from the UK to New Zealand so anything I dont need stays. I have even worn many layers of clothes to go through the airport. I had a t shirt long sleeve shirt and a jumjper on two pairs of trousers, three pairs of socks. It didnt look bad at all, in fact I looked quite buff. Hot though! The good thing is, they weigh your bags, they dont weigh you. Wear all your luggage I say!!!

i only take the first aid kit when traveling by car. I would not take it with me when going by air since many items might not be permitted thru security or might hold me up as they have to examine them.
If I will be away though for a long time I might buy a small one when I arrive off of my flight and then leave it behind at the hotel.

Around 3 years ago, while we were at church, my dad missed a step near the parking area, and he banged his head in the road.. He smashed his glasses and got a cut in his nose.. We were in panic because we didn't have a first aid kit in the car.. After that, I bought first-aid kits for our cars, our house and our apartment.. And it was really a big help.. You'll never really know when you'll need a kit like that. When I travel to far places or I commute, I always have a small bag for medicines and band-aids.. And that helps too.. you'll never know when somebody needs something.. And with my little bag, I have helped a lot of people. =)

Wow good for you.. my mom is just like you, while we prefer to travel light, she wanted to make sure she doesn't miss something, she even brings pillows and blankets during long trips, extra stuffs which sometimes annoys us but I love her for being like that. It just shows how she cares for us
