In my personal opinion, dogs are not meant to wear anything, including clothings, and shoes especially.
Their paws are meant to touch the ground, with their nails in aid of some gripping of the ground. With shoes coming in between their paws and the ground, I believe they do not feel comfortable at all when they walk. And with the shoes covering up their foot, they may feel warm.

There's no way I would put my animals in any kind of clothing - their bodies are already adapted well enough to handle just fine without it.
I've never actually seen a dog wearing shoes in public, though.

I don't think it is necessary for a dog to wear shoes when bringing them out for a walk. They are animals anyway and they will sure to feel uncomfortable wearing shoes. If you are afraid that their legs might get dirty after walking in the park you can wash their feet when you reached home.

for me, i think of dog (or any animal at that) shoes as a form of animal abuse.

No i don't think dogs should wear shoe because their paws are specially adapted to take on any form of ground so thats what they should be kept in.
