I watched that movie last night and it wasn't nearly as scary as it was the first time I watched it. I didn't really remember the plot until the end. Do you find old movies less believable as they grow older, or as you grow older?

I think it's just that you've seen it before and you know what's coming. I doubt that it will ever have quite the same impact the second time around. The really good ones still have something to tell you though, even if it isn't the same impact as the first time.

Some I do; some not. I think the more often we watch and know the plot, etc, the less impact it has on us. It is like everying...houses, for instance, that were familiar and seemed huge to you as a child seem to have shrunk in size once you are grown. Interesting question! Karen

Hi Pat, I find that after as I get older, I have a different perspective and therefore a different "take" from seeing the movie in previous years. Also, I think that as technology improves, they create and produce more realistic scenes.

Yes Harry Potter is about my speed now, I don't need to much reality in my off times. Thanks

I found the same when I saw that recently. I'm sure it's because you really know what's going to happen. Even if you can't actually bring it to mind, it's somewhere in your brain at a deeper level.

Definitely, some movies get better and better with time, special effects or acting style notwithstanding. But some movies do change depending on the technology involved or what kind of suspension of disbelief there is. I also remember thinking Independence Day was TERRIFYING when it came out... but I was kinda young. Haha. Now I can appreciate what it was, what it is now, what it still says about American fears/hopes... etc. We watch it regularly every 4th of July. :)

Yes, but I love to collect old old movie... sometimes I end up with watching the same thing all over again. If it is scary and I watch the second time then I still scare but not that much. sometimes those movie seem so old and I can't believe I still watching them :)

Some movies definitely don't age well, and as we grow up and learn more, it makes it really hard to find them as believable as we did when we were young. On the other hand, believablity/intensity might go down just because you've seen the movie more than once. I remember the first time I saw Independence Day, and I thought it was groundbreaking wonderful movie. Now I've seen it a few times since then, and it just kinda seems drawn out and really stretching the limits of credibility, since I can see things in it now that I never noticed in the first viewing since I was too busy being awed by the special effects.

I guess if you are looking at a movie and know enough to appreciate the workmanship you can look at any movie over and over again. I just don't know that much.
