I had an ingrown toenail taken cared of in October. It has been growing back in but not normally! The nail is growing back but now the nail seems to be brittle! The nail comes off to much when I trim it and it seems to become thick! I not sur if I got a nail infection now are there is something else going on! Any ideas?

This is very normal, give it time and try applying a moisturizing lotion to your feet twice a day, this will help if it is becoming dry. I have had several removed, (thank goodness, knock on wood) not in many years, and they all grew back funny, but over time they were normal.

Try to visit a dermatologist. They are the ones who could explain very well regarding the infections that might be happening to your nails and of course will give you the needed medications and ointments. Another thing is that in trimming nails, you should try not to put angles on the sides to prevent ingrowns. Be sure the trim your nail following the curves of your fingers or use a buffer to smoothen the sides.

What kind of doctor do you see to have that done? I think I need to schedule an appointment, but I don't know what kind of doctor to go to!!!

I saw a podiatrist,a foot doctor, for my ingrown toe nail. I suggest seeing a podiatrist.

I have actually went through the same thing and to be honest *knock on wood* that it hasn't happened recently. I had an ingrown toenail that got so bothersome that my podiatrist said that it would be recommended that we pull the entire nail out so that when it does grow back it will grow normally and not ingrown. One suggestion that I could give is that trim your nails so that it doesn't poke the skin to cause an infection and also wear shoes that are wide in size to give your toes enough room to breathe and move around.
