Can anyone suggest a really good read! I like mostly all types of books, however I am not overly found of the "sappie" romance books. I would love to hear what books everyone would recommend and I love to expand my library a bit...let me know your favorite book you recent read and just a very brief description. Thanks.

I love the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton. The first book is called Guilty Pleasures, and if you look it up on amazon.com you can find the names of all the other books in the series. I got most of them from paperbackswap.com for the cost of shipping only.

Hi Glitter and welcome to MyLot! I haven't read any of her books, but I will have to check them out on Amazon. I haven't tried paperbackswap, but I have been to the site. We have a really good used bookstore here, and I buy most of my books from there. Every now and again I get books from Amazon as I am on swagbucks and they have gift certificates for amazon. Thanks for responding.

The Eight sound like something I would like to read. Mysteries are one of my favorites (however I do like a wide spectrum of books). I will add this to my list as well. I am so grateful to all who have given me such a wide variety of books to choose from.

I love mysteries too. When I was a child I read a ton of Nancy Drew books. I was in love with them! I wanted to be just like her! The kids movie that came out recently was really cute, too. :-)

It just depends on your taste. There are thousands of good books. Have you read the Kiterunner? It is about two boys from different social stratas growing up in Afghanistan and later in their lives in the USA. I found it fascinating.
There is also Julie and Julia by Julie Powell. Julie embarked on a year of cooking Julia Child's recipes. It is hilarious.
Another precious little book is by Aldo Buzzi called The Perfect Egg and Other Secrets. It is a collection of recipes, anecdotes and observations about delicious foods and wonderous places. If you are a perfectionist this little gem is a real find.
A Great new Canadadian book by Elisabeth Hay, Late Nights on Air. Set against the stunning beauty of the Canadian Far North this novel captivates the heart and mind.
As you can see my tastes are eclectic. I am a very voracious reader and right now I am going to look for a book by A.J. Jacob, I think it is called Living Biblically. This author describes his experiences and adventures when he lived one year according to the commandments of the bible, mainly the laws of the Old testament. I am looking forward to finding this book.
Have a wonderful summer with all your new reads.

Thanks for all great reviews! My taste is very eclectic as well. I try not to limit myself to certain types of books. I normally keep a notebook in my purse of books I want to read, however the list is getting very short as I read rather quickly. Thanks for the list and happy reading!!!

Hi! I like mysteries and one two mystery series that I really enjoy reading are the Sue Grafton books--she's started this abcederian series for her private detective character, Kinsey Millhone--so she has A s for Alibi and so on--the last I've read is T s for Trespass & I've completed her series except for the H one--still have to find it----another mystery series, which is also a very fun read is written by Janet Evanovich--this is about a female bounty hunter, Stephanie Plum and it's just such a hoot to read--this author has her books by the numbers, so it;ike "One for the Money"--and she's down to 16 already...other good books would be by Anita Shreve, The Last Time They Met was just superb in my opinion, and also The Pilot's Wife...I could go on & on but do also check out http://www.bookarmy.com/My/Books.aspx --it's a site for book lovers, and you can see reviews of a ton of books over there & see what other people are reading...happy reading!

I was tickled when I read your response, because as much as I love mysteries I have never read any Sue Grafton books, or Janet Evanovich, which everyone that knows me thinks I am nuts for never reading anything my either author. I am weird when it comes to series of books. I usually go to second hand stores to get my books, or to the library and if I can't find the first in the series, I usually won't pick up anything else in the series. I have both authors on my "list" and I am just waiting to get those first books. I know that probably sounds weird to most people...what can I say???!!!?? I haven't heard of Anita Shreve, but the review I will add her book to my list. Also, thank you so much for the site with the reviews. I love sites like that. I usually go to Barnes and Noble for my reviews. Thanks again.

Could you give me just a brief description on both of those books and perhaps who the author is. Thank you.

I don't have any favorites, but I love the book A Great And Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray.
It's about this girl, Gemma, who has "visions". She learns about a group called "The Order" who also have "visions".
There are a few bits where it's a love story, but it's more of a fantasy book.
I enjoy it and the second book "Rebel Angels".
Hope you enjoy it. =D

I haven't read a fantasy book in quite a while...I may have to put these books on the top of my list. Thank you for sharing with me.

I actually haven't had anybody tell me about that book, however I have been trying to get it from the library and it is always checked out. It is on my list of "to be read" books.
