What's an ok age for a child to go to the restroom alone?

Leave me begin by saying I will be consulting the parents on this…... I’m taking my 8 year old God son to a sporting event this summer. I don’t have a lot of experience with kids, I don’t have any myself. So I was wondering at 8 years of age is it ok to allow him to go to the men’s room by himself when he needs to use the restroom or should I accompany him into the lady’s room?

Myself I think all young boys should be brought into the ladies room, My son is 8 years old and I dont think they should be exposed to men going to the bathroom. My husband usually takes him in the mens room but I think that they should always be behind closed doors.

I think at 8 years old, he'll be alright. If you get him to the door, then wait for him outside, it shouldn't be a big problem. If you're unsure, talk to the kid as well - ask him if he's comfortable with it, talk him through the process, and he should be fine.

you could go with him maybe just because there would be a ton of strangers at the event and i would be afraid of him getting lost or what you could do is walk with him to the mens room, wait outside til he is done then walk back with him. it just depends on his level of maturity.

I think 8 is old enough to go to the males restroom alone. I am sure he wouldn't want to be found in the ladys room.

LevysLuv . .this one is an easy and a hard one to call. As you are the god parent it is best for you to ask the childs parents how they feel about this subject. Usually the parents know the child and know what they can handle especially at the young ages (when they become teens . .oy it is a whole other story)
But I would definitely first talk to the parents. . . maybe they may just want you to stand outside the mens room .. 8 is a difficult one to call at this phase. .for the boy may be mortified to have to go into the ladies room. Just remember each and every one of us progresses at different stages and ages. Honestly I have a few friends who at 50 cant be trusted to go to the mens room alone ;)
Hope it is a great day for the 2 of you and what a wonderful god parent you must be to be so concerned about a little issue that could be monumental!
Happy lotting to you!!
