What is your definition of feminism? i think it is equal rights for both males and females. i think that often people believe feminists are bra burning, man haters. but to define the word feminism would shine light on the fact that feminism is really about equal rights for humans. i guess i am a humanist at heart.

You are right! Feminism is a movement aimed at providing women with equal rights as the men. But a few women have really made a living by this - LOL they find everything a mand does wrong or they want woman to react the same way as men. We should realize how ethical it would be to behave the right way than just fighting who has the right to do what. BTW, i'm a humanist too :)

yeah i think the idea of feminism has become skewed. it is not about acting like men. if women want to do that so be it, but that is not feminism. that is more like identifying with another gender. i am glad you are a humanist :) i think that we get so caught up in blaming men for all the inequalities, that feminism looks evil and horrible. however, a lot of men are feminists.

i agree mama bear. we want equality, but when it comes to the armed forces, that is a great example, some women want less physical interaction.we want equality, but we still expect men to pay for our dates. i truly do not know if there will ever be an equal playing field. i hope so. i hope future generations will see that.

I think, mama_bear and lizann, both of you are right. But we should agree that a woman's physique is very different from that of man and attimes these should be taken into consideration. I know it is not being equal - men & women cannot be equal. They are two different types of a species.

it would be nice if we all had the same footing. but then again up until recently blck people did not have any rights, and prior to that neither did women, we have come a very long way since then. thousands of years and genetic predisposition makes the change slow, but we are getting there. i am grateful for the strides made so far.

we have come a long way. when my grandma was a child she was not allowed to wear pants. the only job opportunities she had was to become a teacher or a secretary. how far we have come from that. however, we still have a long way to go, not only concerning women but sexuality. i am grateful i am allowed to speak my mind as a women because of the great strength other women had, to get where we are today.

thanks! i really wish it didn't get so distorted throughout the years. i think that many people feel it is about equal rights for both men and women, but since feminism has been depicted in a skewed light, that message is overshadowed by more radical activists, who want women to have more power than men. that is wrong. equality is the key.

I would like to this definition of feminism, if I may. Although I agree that feminism is about equal rights for everyone, for many feminists it's also about doing away with the construction known as "gender" altogether. If we lived in a world where people weren't divided along lines of "female" and "male," think how difficult it would be for oppression or inequality to start in the first place.
