What is your meditation technique?

I believe that there are various ways in which one can meditate. Mine is very simple. I lie down flat, close my eyes and loosen all my body muscles. THen i start visualising that each of my body par (tissues, muscles, organs) are functioning properly and making me feel healthy. Then once this proces is done i slowly visualize all my chakras getting activated and slowly spreading the positve white light (energy) to all part of the body. I turn to my right and then sit up. Do you follow a special meditation technique you would like to share?

I practice zazen, which isn't strictly speaking a meditation, more of a mind focus. It is the basis of Zen practice which is the intention of becoming mindful, recognizing that there is only now, that the past is gone and future is not yet. It is the intention of a Zen practitioner to use the mindfulness practised in zazen into the tasks of every day life, meaning that the profound can discovered in the mundane. There are many Zen stories and one that I feel illustrated this beautifully is.... There was once a student of Zen who asked his master, "how can I become enlightened", to which the master replied, "Chop sticks, carry water... enlightenment". If we can become focused totally on mundane tasks "carrying water and chopping sticks" to the exclusion of all other thoughts, then we are mindfully in the here and now. At one with all and our perceptions of separation will disappear. - Derek

I apologize for the technicality, but I have outlined the actually process of zazen on my website here - http://ayrehypnotherapy.com/breathing The meditation itself is quite easy to do, and by actually doing it on a daily basis, a practitioner can get deeper and deeper into the essence of Zen itself. It is more a way of life, than just sitting in meditation. Please if you have any questions, PEM me here on myLot and I will help all I can.. - Derek

Well, I am not meditating now but I am really interested in it. I tried few times but I could not concentrate. May be sooner I am going to start it. I will see the comments on this post and refer their techniques. Any way a good discussion.

I'm happy that the discussion has inspired you and i hope more people respond to it so that both of us learn the differnt techniques to meditate. I understand how difficult it is to concentrate in the beginning, but as days go by you will notice that you are able to focus much better than your trial days. :)

I just start by sitting erect first. Then I inhale and exhale slowly thereby controlling the breath speed.Breath and mind are inter related and so I do it.Then I close my eyes and chant my mantra for a while. Then I let mt mind wander freely and remain silently watching it.Then after sometime the mind settles and then happens meditation.Cheers!

I don't like to meditate by sitting, though almost every book teaching mediation says sitting is the most common pose. What I do is lay on bed, and relax, and I often go to sleep by this way. I wonder if my meditation is really a meditation.
