Can pencils be used as stakes?

Can a pencil be used as a stake? I'm sure they can as I seem to remember Willow levetating one and killing a vamp with it!
I therefore pose the question, why didn't they have a good supply of pencils knocking about there person?

yep, anything made out of wood can kill vamps. But of course, the pencil has to be sharp and really hard to break, and thats why the stakes are better. you cant go wrong with a stake ;)
