I'm still puzzled about some functions in mylot?

Hi, I have been a lotter for several months yet I 'm still puzzled about some functions.I don't know if it's due to my carelessness.
The main problem I have is to add interests. I know where to start but let me put it in details.
I click "interests" then I can see the differnt categories. Even a moment ago I was so stupid not to notice the column " all interests". However, though I've got it now, I don't think it's convenient to search for some specific interest. Do I have to search from one page to another in each category? The options are not arranged in alphabetical order, so sometimes, I can't find what I want despite searches for many pages. I know I can choose "add new interest", but I prefer to choose the one that has been the choice of many members. If so, I think my discussions in that interest are easily seen by others.
Even if I use "search", I can only search for tags or discussions and can't search for interests.
Now let's come to another problem. I know we're not allowed to repeat discussions. Before I start a discussion, do I have to make a full search to make sure there are no similar discussions? Do I have to enter the same process of searching one by one, from one page to another, as I mentioned above? It's such a tiring job!
Besides, as long as the participants are different, I don't think it's a repitition or useless to start similiar discussions.
How about you? I want to hear your opinion.

Ever since I joined I have never added an interest by searching for it. I add it when I respond on a discussion as it asks me if I want to add it. By doing that I have now many, many interests added to mine and am aware of many discussions being started. I found them by going to the tabs 'no responses', 'hot topics', 'friends started' above this discussion. There I find an interesting dicusssion, I respond and add the interest wnen I submit it.
MyLot tell us to be original and not to repeat topics and we can easily do that by using the searchbar above every page. Add some words of the topic you are thinking of starting then highlight 'discussions' and if there are already siscussions on that topic you will be aware of them and not start another one. The whole point of myLot is to discuss and if you want to start a discussion on a topic already started then instead of starting a repeat, go and respond on the one already started. It doesn't matter how old the discussion is it will still be interesting if it was original in the first place.
It may be tiring but the bottom line is always that this is myLot's site, they set the Guidelines and we have to follow them

That's a good idea to add interests while making responses.
However, when it comes to my mind to start a new discussion, and haven't got the corresponding interest added, don't I have to make a search?
Just now, I searched totally 10 pages in " edit interests" and found "literature" eventually. I'm so bored.
It's right we have to obey he guidelines even they are not perfect.

I can understand about older dicussions and the users not be active anymore but many of them still are. Ihave regularly been responding on older topics and receiving comments from the OP. If you see an interesting dicussion it is enough to check the profileof the user to see whether they are still active and likely or not to comment.
As for when a dicussion topic can be repeated and not be considered as such - I have decided to contact myLot about this and ask for clarification.

I agree to most opinion from _soonernation_ and jukesy.
Perhaps you can sometimes get responses from old topics,mysdiana; I'm afraid most probably, if we respond to a 1-year-old discussion, we get nothing but a record of one more response and 1 more cent in our account .
It's a great idea to contact mylot,and we are waiting for your feedback,dear mysdiana, thanks for it:)
Besides, somewhat I have the same feeling as _soonernation_LOL

before i was really at lost here in mylot. when i want to start topic in certain interest, i waited for it to be in the heading or i will start topic that is in the heading. But thru the days, i've learned how to used it. sometimes its not too user friendly but still its manageable.
About starting topics that same thoughts with the other discussions, i think its ok as long as you dont copy the whole topics. I have lots of topics that is the same with other members, but who cares. I didnt copy their discussion, it is just we have the same interest.

I agree to your idea, but don't you think it's frustrating to suffer deletion only for the reason of repetition,especially when your discussion is truly informative? I often hear some deletions, I don't know if any of them is due to repititon.
