My husbands cat started drooling yesterday for no apparent reason. We can't find anything he ate and he is otherwise acting normal. I called the vet and they were really no help, just said to keep an eye on him. Lats night he stopped drooling and was fine until a few minutes ago. Any ideas?

I had read a similar article yesterday. Our cats are indoor only. Everything we keep in the house - even what we use to clean the house - is all pet friendly.

I've seen a ton of cats drool when you are petting them, usually in your lap when they are "knitting" but I can't say I've noticed it any other time. My dog will start to drool right before he is going to throw up. But I guess these little habits wouldn't just start out of the blue, it's probably something you and your husband would've noticed before if it was at certain times like that. Hope everything's okay with your kitty. best of luck.

Are you sure he didn't get into something? Houseplants? The garbage? If he stopped and started again, maybe something is triggering it. Does he seem anxious when he drools? If so, maybe there is something agitating him from outside (another cat or dog or wild animal). If not, try watching him to see what the trigger may be. I would get a second opinion if I were you. Your vet should be helpful in trying to diagnose your pet's illness. If they aren't, maybe it's time to switch.

Really, I think the cat has just decided he wants to drool. Earlier in the year he managed to knock out two front teeth and that's where the drool is coming out. The drooling yesterday was out of control. Today it happened once while he was sleeping in my sons bed.
This cat always has "something" wrong with him it seems: he has bad teeth, sinus problems, etc
I called 3 different vets (we are new to this area and don't have a vet yet) and they all said the same thing. Keep an eye on him. He has no fever, is eating and drinking.

He's the kind of cat that rubs his face all over everything. He never likes his mouth being opened just because you are restraining him and the poor thing is always getting meds, but never acts like he is in any pain.

I'd say it's either the teeth or possibly stress from just moving. Bad teeth will cause drooling. Is his mouth tender when you touch it? Does he allow you to touch all around his face and neck? Be cautious when you try this though as he will lash out if his face is sore.
How long have you been in your new place? It can take weeks for them to adjust to a new location and in the meantime they stress themselves out to the point of sickness: panting, drooling, excessive grooming, wandering around meowing at the top of their lungs are all signs of stress.

What breed is the cat? There are breeds of cats that have a tendency to drool. Burmese are ones that can drool. I have had two black cats that drooled copiously. Sam was one who could almost drool on command! If he sat on your lap you would need to change clothes because you were soaked. He lived to be 15 years old. Ralph is almost 17 and is another drooler. They would drool if they got over excited. Also how old is the cat? Older cats will tend to drool too.
Is the cat a persian or short nosed breed? My cat book says that it could be from over crowding of the cat's teeth. This happens a lot in short nosed breeds.
Another possibility is that there might be a bad tooth. They will sometimes drool when they have a tooth that is bad. Since you work at being a pet friendly home, I doubt that it is any poison or plant that is causing the drooling. If he had eaten a plant that wasn't good for him, he would have shown it in his actions.
Try not to worry too much, as when a cat gets sick they let you know big time. If he is acting otherwise normal, it could be something simple like maybe a sore tongue, bad tooth or it simply could be inherent to the breed. I hope I've been a little help.

The cats are part Siamese and part who knows. The only time I had ever seen one drool was one the last Vet drew blood out of the females neck about a year ago. The last time he had a bad tooth we had no clue at all because he had other issues too (this was right after we adopted him). Even once the other issues cleared up, he never presented any problems with his teeth. The only reason the bad tooth was found was because at his yearly check he had too much tartar and only then did they find a bad tooth.

If your vet did not suggest bringing in the cat for a dental check up I would maybe look for a better vet. I have had a couple of cats that drooled, they were both dental issues with teeth needing to be removed and antibiotics given.

I'm not sure why the cat was doing that either. I have never been a real cat owner. I have mainly owned dogs. I know alot of dogs will drool when they are in heat. Alot of animals do that.

Cats normally do not drool. Sounds like your kitty may have gotten into something that is not good for it. Usually if the let the cat outside, they will eat green grass as a cure, if they are sick. Otherwise, i would find a new vet, because drooling is not normal in cats.

From my expierence as a cat owner it could likely be a dental problem. I have a cat that needed a couple of teeth pulled due to infection. In any case, sounds like a trip to the vet is in order.
Hope all is well.

Your cat could be having a problem with his teeth. Our cat just had several teeth pulled because of similar issues. If your vet won't check him out, get one who will. Dental problems are very painful and can cause other infections.

Well my cat drools occasionally when hes puring but other then that he seems pretty normal well as normal as I can expect from my cat, I think a lot of cats drool a little sometimes, as long as its not affecting the way he eats or plays or his quality of life then it shouldn't be anything to be to concerned about just fallow your vets advice and just keep an eye on him, but your cat should be ok.

Your cat may be drooling because of bad teeth, that would be the first thing I have checked. Sometimes there are teeth that are infected that you can't see but a doctor can find. How old is the cat? Some older cats can drool, but usually it has to do with their teeth. Posion is always a concern, not only household chemicals but medication. I had a cat who chewed on a stool softener capsule and it is very bitter and cause profuse drooling, although the actual medication was harmless,it tasted very bad and caused drooling. If as you say the cat has bad teeth, please have your a vet look at them, it may just take antibiotics or a tooth pulled to stop it and your cat will feel better. Good Luck
