Some of us believe on Astrology and some don't but now let me ask you two things:
1) In what year were you born based on the Chinese Calendar?
2) And which do you prefer the horoscope or this Chinese thing? And why do you choose that over the other one? If none of the above... why?
If you'll ask me... first I was born in the year of the PIG and I am fond of reading this Chinese Calendar than a typical horoscope. But still I am not really relying on it that much because I do believe that the best guide that I could get is from God above more than any Chinese or Astrologer could ever give.
How about you??? Let us discuss this part 3 of my previous two discussions about birthdays

lol =D U are branching into different types of horoscope huh?? When will the next one based on taro cards come?? haha =D
Well, i'm in the same year as u too.. As i'm a chinese, it's natural that i believe more in chinese astrology as compared to horoscope.. However, somehow or other, i dun read much into chinese astrology because it's often more for the whole year in general.. Unlike horoscope, it's broken down into weeks and months etc.. hehe ^_^

lol =D yeah, in chinese calendar, our horoscope is broken down further into 5 elements of the world such as, Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth ^_^ And each of them represents a certain period of time to make up the whole year.. hehe ^_^
And i think i do belong to the element of, Fire.. haha =D

yup... but if I'm not mistaken the year is further divided into groups like... a FIRE BOAR, WATER BOAR, EARTH BOAR, AIR BOAR??? I dunno if it is based on the month of our birthday??? What do you think. And about this topic... it is BY REQUEST and just granting one of the responder's request. LOL

I love reading western and chinese astrology, especially when they say that its a lucky year for me or whatsover. It kinda give me hope when I am down. I was born 1981 which makes me rooster but since it's january, I'm still under year of the monkey. It's quite difficult for me because I have mixed rooster and monkey attitudes so I both read what they are saying about the 2 years.

How come you are on the years of the rooster and monkey at the same time??? All I know is that chinese calendar base things on the year and not the month of our birth. They only consider the month when they categorize you to the four elements of the earth like AIR, WATER, FIRE, EARTH/ But please correct me if I am wrong... don't have much idea about it.

Usually, Chinese New Year either fall on January or February every year depending on their calendar. So if you are born between January and February you might be in a cusp. Meaning you might have the attitudes of both the outgoing and incoming year You might check on what exact date the Chinese New Year falls on that year to verify what sign your in.

Hey Jhordie, I was born in 1988 that is the Year of the Dragon. I prefer typical horoscopes more than Chinese ones. The Chinese calendar puts everyone born in a year into the same category and say they all have the same attributes. I think that is not correct as people born in a year can have different attributes and characteristics.

I guess you are right. It will become true if you believe in it

They are all generalisations. Traditional horoscopes 'work' only if you believe in them. If you believe what you are being told, then it will happen because you make it happen if you aren't aware of it. It is calle the power of suggestion.
I laugh when I read mine, because it is never right!

But Chinese calendar characters have been divided into five elements as well to further describe each kind of individual for that year... Like me, I am a FIRE BOAR and there are WOOD BOAR, and etc. but still you are right, horoscope tends to generalize everyone who where born in a particular month or year. :)

If we follow my birth year, 1990, it falls under the Year of the Horse. But if we strictly follow the Chinese Calendar, according to my Chinese friends, I fall in the year of the Snake because I am a January baby.
Actually, I am not really fond of Astrology and Horoscope. I don't read much of them. However, I am not against of the belief on Astrology or Horoscope. It may help you but you just don't have to believe everything written in it.

Yes, very much. I believe in God and his teachings more than anything written in this world. Horoscopes and Zodiacs may be useful especially if it encouraging you to do good and giving you warnings on what may happen.

I'm a monkey, so is my 2nd daughter. I guess that's why we can't sit still! LOL.
I prefer the Chinese Calendar as it isn't psychology based. It is actually based on statistics.

Never mind. My computer often plays up too. over protective anti virus software that won't even let me open my email without first confirming it is me! LOL
I believe that over many centuries, the Chinese astrologers noticed that certain traits came round every four years, and so they were able to create their Chinese version of the horoscopes. I can't find the book I was reading (a book written by a skeptic who did research to disprove the accuracy of all horoscopes)but it was very interesting indeed.

Really??? How'd you know about that? but to be honest... I'll be giving my Best Response award to you especially about your comment on one of the responses here that horoscope works on the power of suggestion that makes a person do something towards what it is trying to say or imply. KUDOS to you my friend... but still hoping to know why'd you say that it is based on statistics than Psychology.

I am a rat in chinese astrology. I am reading about rat and the compatible animals of my chinese sign.
Because there are elements, in chinese astrology, i look up what is my element so that i can know more accurate reading of my year.
I am a wood rat.
The year has animal equaivalent, the month and the day. ( Try to look up again, what is that)
I fogot my month and day animal, and that has explaination about you too, not only the year of birth.

My year 1984: Wood Rat
My Month November: Wood Pig
My day 7: Wood Snake
My hour 19:00: Fire Dog
In some chinese astrology site you can see there to enter your birth information so that you will know about your chinese astrology chart.
Because i know it, i look up each one to read each qualities or traits then i will see it if i have that according to this. It is accurate but still not 100%.

Wow... I am looking up now the site i get my reading.
Wood rat. This is the link:
http://www.tuvy.com/entertainment/horoscope/woo_rat.htm
To cite the thing i love about wood rat that i found true to me is
"Don't expect the wood rat to whispher a lot of sweet nothings, again still waters run deep, they don't need words, they ACT their love, showering affection kindness, and respect on their love ones, who love them in return."
This result true to me and in the site i attached. There is lot more details maybe about wood rat but that is what the site i found about it.

I was born on the year of the rat and that is supposed to be good under the Chinese calendar. LOL I'm not really sure why though. I read somewhere that in the race to the temple, the rat came in first so supposedly, people who are born under the year of the rat are winners. I hope so. LOL

firstly, i'm born in the year of rabbit. the characteristics of a rabbit includes being a private person and introvert. rabbits likes to work behind the scene and do not crave attention. i feel that this describes me more than my other horoscope. i'm a cusp i.e. born between two star signs. it's rather difficult to tell which sign i belong to as i have more of a leo personality but some of virgo's too. also, the stars moved early in the year i'm born so i'm technically a virgo. it's too confusing for me so i just stuck to my chinese horoscope. cheers

This is a really good discussion, and I recently responded to your discussion on horoscopes, and I am sure that a lot of people have opinions when it comes to Astrology,I am sure there are probably a lot of people who believe in Astrology and follow it without question, and then I am sure some people do not believe in Astrology but still read it just for the fun of it,and I can understand that everyone believes different things, and we have to respect everyones beliefs and opinions, when it comes to me I do not know much about the Chinese Calender, and I had to look it up just to know I was born in the year of the Ox,so you can tell I do not follow the Chinese Calender because I do not think it is something that you should put your heart into, and as I told you on your other discussion,I read my horoscope from time to time, but I do not buy into that either,so I guess you could say I prefer neither of them because they are just not something I find important,I believe in God,and I think that his will is in the Bible and that is what we should follow, and believe in,but that is just me,have a great day, good luck with your life, and all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting.

Hi Jhordie, I enjoy reading Chinese and Western astrology, regarding my animal sign and star. Just for the fun of it - to see what the experts predict for millions (?) of people sharing the same animal sign and star as me. I don't take this seriously; how could so many people be having the same fortunes or misfortunes?

Hi..i'm born in the year of rat. Basically i think i'll prefer horoscope than chinese calendar thing. This is because i think the chinese calender is more general that it views the person's characteristics and do prediction on a year, of everyone in that year, and so it's no specific enough. Whereas the horoscopes view everyone's personalities from month to month, and i think this will be more precise. However, normally i'll just take all these as reference and do not take it very seriously. I read both chinese calendar fortune telling as well as my horoscope prediction. Some of it can be quite accurate while some are not. I know, this is common. :)

I was born in the year of the TIGER ... even i read n enojoy more chinease zodiac then that typical one ... watever the quality they desribes of tiger i have them almost all ... but that true that i don't rely on that as many ppl doing these days ... they just spend their life according to the zodiac sign n plan their works according to them by this they r just leaving discussions of their life on those astrologers who r just filling their pockets by playing with minds of many ppl ... i really hate all this ...
Do belive on ur ownself
n we should trust our CREATOR our GOD !

I was born in the year of sheep...
Although I live in CHINA, I prefer to believe the horoscope.
and I wanna say, my peers prefer to believe the horoscope.
only the adults ,especially over thirty, prefer to this Chinese thing.
We don`t why, but, we just think that horoscope is more interesting and believable.

HI, I born on June 12 and the years of Rat. As far as I know, if someone born in the month of June is very intelligent person, kind, easy to get along, and very cool thinking, also there are two people in your head (twin). these are fit in my category. My religion would believe very strongly on who you will marry to. they will ask for your date and month of your birth and will compare those two together. If you two against each other then the parents would never marry yous at all. for example, I always get alone with most animals (when you go to chinese restaurant and sometimes they provide you with table mat with full of those years of animals, and they will tell you who you are against to and who you can get along with)
for me, I get along with many kinds, but a few will not get along. another thing, I can't marry who has the same sign like me (rat like me) I think they believe, you can't make a living or your life is not wealthy.
I sometime believe and sometimes don't but I born and raise in this religion so I can say that I still take this seriously for 50%

I am so glad so many people believe in Chinese Astrology, cos i'm a Chinese.
I was born in 4th, July,1982 in Chinese calendar, in the year of dog. and my horoscope is Virgo.
I think i'm more fit as the dog Astrology says. cos i'm a little conservative and very easy-going just like dog. Maybe someone fit as the horoscope more, lot. Anyway, they are both very mysterious, and contain a lot sense, do you think so?

I have to say, I don't really believe in Astrology, but I like to look now and again. The Chinese calendar seems to be a lot more accurate personality-wise. I was born in the year of the ox, and my boyfriend is the pig. Although my best friend keeps claiming he's the dragon, he's really the rabbit. Ha!

I just had a birthday on June 6th, I was born in the year of the rooster. I looked it up on my birthday, and it actually seemed to be a pretty accurate description, gemini and rooster both seem to fit me very well.
