Read this story: http://www.metronews.ca/toronto/local/article/243106--found-goodwill-paintings-fetch-150-000-at-auction Goodwill found a couple of paintings that were worth 150,000$ for the pair. Then the manager auctions them off. Someone must have known that these were their paintings because someone had to have dropped them off. It is not like they were found in an abandoned building. I wonder if the person that owned the paintings originally came forward could claim the money. What if they were stolen and dumped there, could they not get the paintings back? Are there not a lot of questions about the ethics of selling these paintings without first trying to find the original owner? I would be sick if I did something like this, donated a valuable piece of artwork or furniture and found out later the amount of money I gave away could have eased my life. What would you do if you donated something like this and found out later, just say "c'est la vie" or call a lawyer?

Unless, they were stolen I don't think the owners could get it back, there are no give backs on stupidity and it could be that a couple is in a middle of a divorce and those were his or her favorite paintings so the other party donated them to goodwill. I think I would feel like an idiot if I gave them away but then would be glad that goodwill and many people would benefit from my mistake.

Well, like others have stated here, unless the Artwork was stolen there is nothing really that anyone can do. I know myself that if I was to ever donate a piece of Art somewhere that I was given, or found, I would definately make sure it held NO sentimental value to me, or was not a priceless piece of Art somehow. But personally if they Sold it in an auction I hope they used some of the proceeds to help out the Less fortunate in that area for sure instead of just benefiting them or the Store.

Well, according to this story: http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/090609/national/art_goodwill_gems_1 the paintings were donated last fall. I think some effort should have been made to see if they were stolen, but otherwise it's a boon for Goodwill. They've closed some stores recently in my area (Hamilton).

This is due to the worker careless. Always workers should be dedicated and work with care. See how much Goodwill charity get loss if it was not found.
