Hi, I love to hear the pearls of wisdom here on Mylot, especially when it comes to age old sayings such as this one. Although I believe that people do eventually get back what they give I think that a saying such as this would make us as bad as the person who has wronged us. I think that if for example someone had murdered someone elses child would it then be fair for that persons child to go through the same fate, or woudl that make us just as bad. I personally think it would and that we shoudl leave such punishments to the powers that be. It is terrible to even comprehend some of the crimes nowadays and those that have been happening dfor many years before us, but I feel this does not mean we should act as those who commit such hanus crimes. I do believe that they shoudl be punished accordingly, but within the law boundries. I can understand the hurt and want for revenge, I myself have been through my fair share of hurt at the hands of others, fortunately no one has been lost but I and people close to me bear the ohysical and mental scars all the same. I do however feel that it is important not to copy such behaviour as an act of revenge, no matter how unfair it seems. I would love to hear how you feel about this, and look forward to your responses. Please bear in mind what I write is my opinion only and that it does not mean I am right or wrong. Everyone be it man woman or child has a pearl of wisdom to share, please feel free to share yours. Many thanks for reading

I believe that an eye for an eye is a fair trial for someone who committed serious crimes, and done wrong to others. You may not be the one who render the punishment for that person. There will be some mysterious force, or courses that the perpetrator will go through to stubmle upon the same fate. So, be patient, and abide by the law. I, personally, believe that fair trial, not by our human designed system, but the natural of force.

I agree to that when it is really a serious crime that has to pay for it. We might not understand what those people feel who are in that situation that we think its not good to take revenge.I've seen such crimes to happen that I always hear and read from news.

Mahatma Gandhi gave a far better answer to this than I can. "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."

If the words of the Mahatma no longer have relevance in our society we have truly lost our way. In another of his quotes he said, "The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. There is honor to be had in taking a blow but returning it is to give in to a weakness of the spirit.

Mahatma Gandhi said "if someone slaps you give him the 2nd choice again" but our leader Quaid Azam who was against Mahtama Gandhi at that time said "if some one slaps you once its not your fault but if some one slaps you 2nd time now its your fault"

It is an old saying " an eye for an eye, the whole world will turn blind. A tooth for a tooth, whole world will fill with toothless mankind" . Vengeance will turn our world into a big messing place and create more act of revenge in society.

Hey, I don't really know what to think, because the bible also says that if you are robbed or something like that, to give him your coat. Also it says that we should only do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

First of all let us pray that bad things do not happen to us. Having said that I personally believe that no person can ever violate somebody elses rights. The magna carta of the land had the people protected from violent acts. So people who disobey the law must be punishable by law. So allow the law to put justice into correct perspective. Revenge will only reduce us to much the same level as those who do bad.

We have seen such chaotic acts in time. It had devastated throughout any community having that law to protect those who are being abused. But as a matter of fact that law should be the absolute judgment to anyone else, it seems that some were not prosecuted and convicted thus not so powerful to covey the absolute justice. I sometimes dis agree in some point that the law should take care everything but in the midst of this unbalanced judgment must have to give way for that eye for an eye, tooth for tooth.

When it comes to leading a country, I would like that saying be implemented. I would like murderers to be killed as well once proven guilty. I believe it's best that their life be taken away so they can't kill anyone anymore. In short, I want a leader with an iron hand.

I firmly believe that this is the rite way of living a good and honorable life. We cant forgive all things, some minor mistakes or some issues could be forgiven but some things or some relations in your life are much more important for whom you want equal justice. In today's world we have to be realistic. Last ting i want to share is theses words are from Quran and Quran told us to live with complete honor and dignity. Justice is for every one. Quran told us that its better to forgive but if you cant then there is equal revenge option for you and its the responsibility of the state of fulfill your revenge.

"Revenge is a pleasure of the narrow mind." Besides, we do things that affect others' lives just as much as they affect ours. And while it is tempting to take things into our own hands, it often takes a bigger, stronger character to forgive and let go.

I'm with you, I don't think I could ever take someone else's eye or tooth under any circumstances. Revenge comes from unforgiving. I believe people should be held responsible for their actions but, "Vengeance is mine saith the Lord". Hatred really only destroys the vessel that's keeping it. I just love "age old sayings". I was very surprised at how many of that we still use often today come from the Bible... Those are my "pearls" and I'm sticking to them...

It is "Vendetta" meaning Vengeance or Revenge to someone. This is very typical when someone does more or less the same thing to harm someone just because he has been hurt by that person so this is purely revenge and the person might even be proud thinking that he has answered back to the one who has made him suffered.

Hi, when i am very angry because he or she cheated me or lie to me..or maybe hurt me a lot i will say "a eye for an eye"...but after a while when i am more calm, i will say.."God will judge"..not me. I am human, and i can hurt somebody else too, even i don t want this. Is very complicated to ant to revenge, and is some silly too. But i am sure that one day he will be punished, this is sure.

Nice topic mam.... Answers too easy for me.Atleast this is what I believe in.This is how I interprete it.This saying doesn't mean that one who lost an eye should get back one.I mean ,this saying doesn't ask the one who lost something to take a revenge at all. This is about a common true "To gain somthing of equal value must be lost"here i mean equal exchange. That doesn't mean we have to take revenge."for the revenge belongs to the Lord".There is a God who judges people according to their deeds. If u see the life history of many people, you will realise it I guess....This is my opinion...Thanks for bearing with me...

i think revenge is sometimes necessary. if someone hurts you deliberately, you should revenge on him or her, otherwise he or she will think that you are weak as a helpless lamb so they will hurt you more and more to see how you react and enjoy their tricks.

For me, I think that small undoings and errors can be forgiven. If a child accidentally smashes a bowl, I don't think many would have the inhumanity to pluck out his tooth for that. However, when it comes to crimes like murder and such crimes and sins, I think that the person should face the music and get punished, jailed or even hanged for what he did. In my opninion, this is done more to keep the person who did it from doing it again, rather than punish the person as people who do these serious crimes are more or less crazy. Just my 3 cents.

You are a very good person. And a strong one. I believe in karma, I know people who does bad to others get back what they deserve, threefold. Karma may come slow or may take a long time but it will surely come, that's what I believe in.

That phrase seems to be an equivalent of revenge. Well, what I believe is revenge is only God's. Though in the old testament, this was allowed by God, but when the new covenant came, Jesus redirects everything. He told his servants that if someone threw you a stone, give him a bread... He also told that we have to love our enemies and before we pray, we have to forgive those who sins against us. Whoever hurts us, let God do the revenge.. (He knows what do to..) Hopefully, that make sense! hAPPY MYLOTTING GUYS!
