season specific. Like a winter meal say a big pot of soup that you make anytime of year? I was on the phone earlier and a friend asked what I was having for dinner. I said 'chili'. She commented that she only makes chili in the winter. I had extra meat, and people coming over. A big pot of chili fit the bill. Do you only eat certain meals for winter summer etc?

Well chili for us we usually make in cooler weather of not hotter then 70 degrees because it makes us feel hot when we eat it so does certain soups. So yeah we do eat alot more lighter foods during the summer months and some cold foods that are served cold like cole slaw, potato salads, baked beans, macaroni salad, and salad.,

I would have to say for me the foods that I usually only make in the winter would be like other people have said here. Chili and other heavy soups like that are things I group into the category of comfort food and only make them in the winter. I'll eat chili and soup in the summer if I go out to eat and the place we are at has good soups. But I'll only have a cup as like an appetizer. In the winter here when I make a big pot of chili or soup it is usually what I have for the whole meal with a little bit of bread or salad along with it. I'm a big soup person and could eat it all the time but I only make it generally around the winter months.

I eat any foods I want through the year, although when it is really hot i refuse to cook stew things like that which require a long cooking time because i just cant bear how hot it gets in the kitchen! as we dont seem to get that much extra hot weather generally we eat what we fancy when we want it!

I believe that people do things like chili in the winter to warm up from the cold. In the summer it is too hot to eat a piping hot bowl of chili or it is to me, in the summer I want some thing a bit cooler like a nice salad, but there are many times that I get the craving for chili in the summer. Most barbeque in the summer months it keeps the house cool and great way to cook those hot dogs. I like mine burnt on the grill. With the central air I guess you could cook what you want and eat it in cool air conditioning. We do a lot of things in the fall and over the summer we can't do at other times because the foods are not there for us to do them with. Soon as it turns a bit chilly hubby is in the kitchen making his big pot of vegetable soup.

Only thing I do is the first cold weekend I make a huge pot of Carroll Shelby's chili... shredded cheese and saltines... and eat the whole thing that weekend.. Kind of like welcoming in the winter with a hot bowl of chili!

Well we only eat a certain kind of processed cheese during Christmas. It's become so much of a tradition here in my country that you can only buy this cheese when its Christmas season because the stores don't sell it at any other time of the year lol :D

Well I eat soups, stews and chilli year round. I guess the only seasonal thing I eat would be gumbo. That is one of the things I miss about living in my hometown. The first cold snap we get the first thing my mom makes is gumbo. She always freezes some for me and brings it to me or I take it the next time In home after she has made it.

Many dishes are season specific because, originally, you only got the ingredients at a certain time of the year. In my country we make a couple of dishes with corn that are only made when the corn is ripe. It can be made with frozen corn but we donĀ“t do it. Pesto is seasonal in my country too when basil is ready (fresh pesto, I mean. I keep frozen pesto for all year use).

hi i don't have any specific dish or for that matter any particular type of food.....i have all type of food through out the year...yes it depends on availability of the dish also as many ingredients are seasonal and not available every time so it becomes difficult to have....but other wise anything anytime.....

I probably don't normally do chili in the summer... it's a typical winter thing. I will do some soups in summer, because it's an excuse to use the crockpot and not the stove!
Salt potatoes are something we will not have in winter. For us, they're a dish we have only when grilling! (Salt Potatoes are a NY thing)
Corn on the cob is also something that we usually only have when grilling. Most other fruits and vegetables we'll only eat when they're in season. I've never had a pumpkin pie in the middle of summer, and I don't eat Strawberry shortcake at Thanksgiving.
