I went to the gym yesterday to attend a Body Jam class. There was this young lady who looked TERRIBLE. She was sweating, her eyes were sunk and she had dark eye bags, she had the sniffles, and she was coughing bad. If I were just a little more paranoid when it comes to health, I would have left the place for fear that she actually had the A(H1N1) virus/swine flu. See: http://www.thingswelovetohate.com/2009/06/h1n1-alert.html
If you're feeling sick and you're showing flu symptoms, please do stay at home so that we would all be feeling less paranoid about our own healths. I do believe that we should all be considerate of other people's healths and we shouldn't risk theirs just because we don't think we're THAT sick.

I am strongly agree with you, i really scared of that A(H1N1)going to a mall or anywhere makes me scared i always think that one people i am interracting have this virus. If other people have cold and cough i go on other way, its really scary so we need proper care.
And hoping that this virus will stop already here in the Philippines there are lots of cases already so its really scary.

Oh boy I would feel the same too if I see one in the Gym having that symptoms. Even if that is only an ordinary flu then I guess it still is as infectious as any other diseases are. I think you would not feel better doing exercises and it could even worsen your condition if you would still continue on physical exertion since your body is not in condition do to such physically exhausting activities.

i do agree, even with kids, when kids show signs of flu they should be at home because it is dangerous for them since they have weaker immune system. And one must always take vitamins! it is scary it might contaminate everyone!!! We should be responsible for our own selves and also think of others, when we have these symptoms we rather stay at home and get well..than spread the virus more.

Oh dear. That is scary. These days, having flu-like symptoms is no joke especially with the increasing number of the A(H1N1) Virus. The girl should have been more considerate with a global situation such as this. And not only that, she just put herself in huge risk working out still even if she's not well physically. She could have collapsed right there and then or something.

I agree with you as well. A sniffle is one thing, but if you are so obviously sick that other people are noticing. Even if you aren't that sick, you should stay home as much as possible, so you at least don't freak other people out. I have been one of those people who has been sent home from work, but I certianly wasn't contagious. (Mine was a kidney infection) I do everything in my power not to get other people sick.

being at home when sick is reasonable......IGNORANCE is the problem with people and the reason why the flu is spread at such a fast pace throughout the world. people should have common sense.....with what's happening these days, i think its just practical to see the doctor if symptoms of flu takes place. the spread is happening because people aren't helping. while authorities worked overtime to stop and control the spread, people aren't participating and let them do all the work....and when things get worst, the authorities get the blame for being incompetent..tsk tsk.

I do agree with you. It would be better to stay at home when we are sick or not feeling well most especially that the AH1N1 virus is at hand. It has already spread to different countries and many people are infected already. Though you may not have the virus but it would surely give some people some fear that you might be carrying the virus.

What on earth was she thinking?!?
The thing is, by not resting up she is making her body attack itself because its not having time to recouperate from the virus she would appear to have OR the excercise she is pushing herself to undertake. That of course is aside from the fact that she is probably contagious and is being incredibly selfish by putting herself before anyone she walks past. Hope you're ok oyenkai!

I definitely agree with this post. I actually have taken a sick leave today because I seem to have developed a cough over the night. Though I feel that it's only a result of my recurring tonsilitis, well, I guess, it would really make people more paranoid to be around me. On the brighter side, at least I still get a day off.

Yep I think so too. With the H1N1 flu scare going around we can't be too careful.

i agree with you........but, what if staying home means that one will lose a job and therefore not be able to pay the house payment or rent and buy groceries.
not all employers are that understanding. sometimes it's not a matter of someone going out when they are ill because they want to, as the girl in the gym did. sometimes it is a matter of losing one's job.
i don't know where you live, or who you work for, but stay where you are. not everyone has the privelege of staying home when ill.

the girl in the gym was a member, not a teacher.
Also, if you think about "losing your job" - I do believe that if you end up contaminating half of the office, then you're also more likely to lose your job. When it comes to this kind of health concern, employers are more understanding if it would cost more to actually have one sick person come in than make them stay home and work extra hours some other time another day when he's all better.

The best way we can do to fight for the spread of this virus. We should take a ten day self quarantine at home. If we have one of the symptoms we should coordinate with a physician and stay at home for the care of others. And it is a responsibility of any citizen to protect the community in not spreading the virus so better stay home take a self quarantine if you are infected and suspected.

I couldn't agree more about people staying home when they are ill. I have poor health generally and any extra illness really takes a toll on me.
I got some sort of flu/lung infection thing going a couple of months ago and was finally getting rid of it when a person I barely had met threw her arms around me and breathing directly into my face told me how happy she was to meet me. 30 seconds later she was doubled over coughing, grrrrrrrrrrr, you would think that the oxygen tank I drag around and the tubing in my nose would alert people to be a tad careful, but apparently not. Mostly I just stay home and don't go out into crowds as much as I can.

I agree with you 100%... just saw the news and i am now starting to get paranoid... i go to Manila twice a week... and i take the MRT from North Avenue to Ayala... with all these news about AH1N1... i am contemplating on wearing a face mask... i just hope it won't have to be that way... but i hate to come home with the virus and infect my 3 year old and the rest of my family...

My dad went into a shop here in Salford, UK a few weeks ago and the woman at the till started sneezing. He joked "You haven't been to Mexico have you?" and she replied "No, but my friends have." As you can imagine, he became very frightened as she did look ill. He said he stopped breathing for a while!

you are right. people need to stay home when they are that sick. and bssides why would she push herself to workout in that condition? she must be obsessed with her figure. health is more important than how you look to others. the people who run the gym should have nicely asked her to leave until she is better.

Yes, I agree with you as well. If anyone is sick, the person should not go to work, or to other places which may infect other people. In addition, the person should wear a mask if he/she will have to go out to see a doctor. These are just some basic simple courtesy that one should display in consideration to others. However, it seems that a lot of people do not really understand these, and still go out.
