Musicals turned to Movies

Oftentimes, it's better to watch musicals than movies just because of the great soundtracks. Aside from Disney, many theater productions have been made into movies, such as West Side Story, Grease, Hairspray and Rent, among others. Cats wasn't made into a movie itself, but filmed just as it is in theater. Right now, what I'm waiting for is Wicked.
What's your favorite musical which was turned into a movie?

At the moment, my favourite would probably be Hairspray however I've never seen it live in the theatre. But I did see Mamma Mia in London before I knew there was a movie coming out and that made me think the movie was disappointing. Having watched it again however, I'd say it was still very good.
I completely agree about Wicked! My favourite musical! I heard a rumour yesterday that they're planning to make a movie :) To be honest though, all I want is what they did with Cats as you said, a recording of the West End or Broadway musical. It's magical as it is. Very well done.

Yes, Wicked is the best ever! It's rumored to be out in 2010, but if you check IMDB, hardly anything is solid.
I'd be open to a new interpretation, even if it's different from the stage play. I'd kind of like to see it the way Rent was recreated. But of course, I love the play by itself.
Love Wicked! :D
