Still Funny?

This is a variation of a joke on TV recently that the audience found to be hilarious, and people who complained about it were told they had no sense of humor:
So, Michelle 0bama, dressed like a slu++y waitress, attended a Lakers game with her daughter.
One awkward moment though during the game, maybe you heard about it, maybe you saw it on one of the highlight reels. One awkward moment for Michelle 0bama at the Lakers game, during the third quarter, her daughter was knocked-up by Kobe Bryant.
Who's laughing now?
If the 0bamas do not want to be a media target, Mr. 0bama should not have become a politician, right?

The Obamas make me sick. They are trash and are a mockery to the presidency.
I am hoping this loser fails so miserably so that I will have something to write about.

Maybe in 2012 we should promote PALIN-JINDAL FOR AMERICA.

I think you clearly illustrated why the original joke just isn't funny. It's crass, vulgar humor that might get snickered about privately in some back room between some people who have no class and even at that they would be snickering with a guilty conscience.
It is certainly not a remark that belongs on national television. It is certainly not a remark that the majority of Americans would find the least bit amusing in most cases. That they found it amusing when told about Sarah Palin has to make you wonder if we really have reached the point where no one can think objectively about human rights, and decency.
If we are truly Americans, if we believe in the things that our country stands for, then no one should be singled out for humor that degrades them as a person and human being. Rape humor is degrading to women, all women. I don't care if he meant Willow or Bristol. It was nasty and an attempt to rob Sarah Palin and her family of the dignity we should afford all people.

This was actually used by David Letterman, and the target was Sarah Palin and her family. He used the New York Yankees and one of their players, and her 14 year old daughter. It wasn't funny there, either. Why are all these so-called comedians targeting the Palin family now? The election is over, and there won't be another presidential election for 3 more years. THEY MUST BE REALLY WORRIED ABOUT HER.

I'll say their really worried. Did you hear about all the charges were dropped for all the cases they had against her. Something the main stream media seemed to not want to report for some reason.

I, for one, would like to ask Alex Rodriguez what HE THINKS of being included in this attempt at humor.

hmmmm I thought he preferred much OLDER women. Isn't he the guy involved with Madonna?
Sorry...was that a tasteless thing to say?

What goes around comes around. The Obamas' turn is coming. They will soon be the butt of the crass jokes the left thinks are so funny. Who will be laughing then?

Who cares? No one batted an eye lash when Sarah Palins 17 year old daughter was getting dragged through the mud in the media. So who cares if Obama's family gets joked a little bit? The media's bias disgusting love affair with Obama needs to be protested!

ummm. you missed the point of this discussion. It is about the joke that lettermen made about palin's daughter. A lot of people care. I didn't care for Palin as a politician and I and many others were pretty angry at how her daughter got dragged into the media. Heck...I even felt bad for Sarah as a parent. I may not agree with her politics but she is a human being and her daughter is just a kid. Obama really has absolutely nothing at all to do with this discussion. I'm sure he has been and will be the brunt of many jokes but do you really think it is ok to publicly make jokes about his kids?

The original joke wasn't funny to begin with. It was a cheap shot aimed at a disliked politicians daughter. I do believe it was Obama who said during the presidential race that kids were off limits, and I agree completely with him on that one.
If your going to make a political joke, a kid should not be the punchline.

Democratic daughters have been the but of cruel jokes in the past also.
It's tasteless either way. Most late nite shows have tastelss humor in them. Should we ban all late night shows with tastless humor? Where do we draw the line?

I never liked Letterman much. Johnny Carson put them all to shame. A true American.
If he's so desperate for material that he has to resort to "jokes" like that, than maybe it's time he retires.
I guess he's Obamas comedy Czar...

Dumb joke. Why Letterman is being treated like a politician or someone who is actually some sort of role model, though, I have no idea.

For the same reason O'Reilly, Hannity, or even Don Imus. They don't get off easy on their crass jokes or remarks, so why should Letterman?
I don't care about jokes made about Palin. I don't like the woman. Joking about a politicians kids, however, is just plain tasteless.

First of all, oreilly is not an entertainer. He is played on a major news network. And, um, no, I never said it was okay. But comedians make distasteful jokes all the time. I just wish people would start treating him as such instead of as a leader or something.

I never thought that in America, they also make jokes about their president. Here in the philippines, you will see a book, and its all about jokes of our president. It is funny and it was like a hit during his time. He doesnt care about it, it makes him popular.
For me, if you dont want to be talk of the town, just be in low profile. If you dont need to go out to parties or games or any function, then dont. It is the price you have to pay once your family is in politics. whatever you do or dont do, you will still be talked of everybody most especially those who is against your family.

Maybe I didn't get it. I reread it but it wasn't funny at all. I'm guessing it wasn't meant to be funny though. I read some other replies and I understand where it comes from.

I am reminded of what I was told many years ago when some child told, what he thought was, a joke, and it turned out to be at another child's expense. It's not funny if EVERYONE ISN'T LAUGHING.

Are you talking of the "joke" about Sarah Palin's daughter? I saw that clip of letterman's on the news today. I get why people were upset. She's a kid. The kid's should be off-limits. I watch Sat. Night Live and they are infamous on poking fun at various politicians....Letterman and Leno are not much different. The politicians and the people all seem to take it just fine. Still, I remember when Chelsey Clinton was the brunt of a joke on SNL...a lot of people got up in arms over it. It really is over the line. The kids did not choose to be public figures. The jokes go with the territory to a point but come on...leave the kids out of it. It's poor taste.

This stuff shouldn't have been directed towards Palin's family and it shouldn't be directed at the Obamas either. When are the media going to show some class?

Every president is a target of the comedians. George bush had a whole show dedicated to making fun of him. There were songs and shows about bill clinton and monica... It just comes with the territory. Just like being a celebrity. I don't think they really get offended and if they do it just shows they aren't secure enough to handle all the things a presidency entails. I think everyone should just get a good laugh out of it, them included.
