What Do You Drink With Your Meals...Milk, Coffee, Soda, Juice?

I just sat down with a nice spicy plate of Szechuan chicken for lunch. I poured myself a nice cold glass of milk to go along with it. For some reason I love milk with a lot of my meals that I have at home. When I was a kid I would have had soda or juice with my meals but mom and dad usually had us drink milk at the table. If I go out to eat I like to have like a soda if I'm eating at a fast food place or a nice glass of wine along with some water if we're eating at a steakhouse. For breakfast I like to have a nice glass of juice, but usually now that I have a choice whenever I eat a meal at home for lunch or dinner I like to have a nice cold glass of milk with whatever it is that I am eating. What do you drink with your meals? Do you like to have milk too or do you prefer something different like water or soda?

Coffee is usually my poison but I also drink lots of juice. Milk I use only for cooking or sometimes with my coffee. In my home my boyfriend is the one who loves milk. He's also kind of addicted to any kind of Cola, he says he gets he's sugar from it but I think that's only an excuse.

I don't like milk....never have but love my soda...or water or coffee with a meal. It depends on what it is....like pizza you have to have soda! Or eggs and toast seem to go well with coffee and water can go with anything!

You're right about the pizza, I have to have soda when I have that too, milk just doesn't seem to pair well with that.

Yup Pizza never gels well with milk. Sodas are the good combination with pizzas. But it is quite advisable not to have cold drinks while taking your meal since it may create digestion problems and other health related aspects. It is better if you take a hot drink along with your meal since it is very good for digestion.

Ok now, I have been told all along not to have milk with spicy food…I mean they are completely different food groups and as per Indian food habits, we don’t drink milk with lunch or dinner coz as I said, spicy food and milk is supposed to react adversely in the stomach? Have you ever experienced anything like this? To the discussion now…well you have made me hungry! Schezwan chicken is one of my hot favs…I just love digging into a plateful. Normally, I just take water with all my meals, I find water is the best, it also helps in digestion. Sometimes though, specially at restaurants, I’ll take a soda or a cola.

I've never had a bad reaction when I drink milk with spicy foods. It cools down the tongue a little and nothing like upset stomach has ever happened.

I drink coffee with my meals whenever possible. At a fast food place it might be difficult to get a cup of coffee so I would drink a soda pop. I wouldn't drink a glass of milk unless I was forced too, I have never cared for milk. I use it in my cereal but that's about all

I usually drink water with my meals, sometimes that i had juice or ice tea with my meals in certain cases (like for example that i have to bring lunch to school). I used to drink soft drinks but ever since i had gastritis, the doctor told me that i was forbidden to drink these fizzy drinks because i'll have another one if i resume on drinking those things. Not to mention that i also used to drink coffee along with sweets, but i usually get dizzy and restless whenever i drink coffee. So i quit drinking coffee and start drinking tea instead, at first that it was somehow odd but then i like the unique taste which calms my mind and goes very well with the sweets. And lastly that at times that I drink milk whenever i had chocolate biscuits (like TimTam) at other chocolate cookies and biscuits.

It's just dilicious, you kind of have to gauge how much honey is right for your taste, so start with just a little at a time.

Hi dfinster, I have different drinks for my 3 daily meals. I like to take black tea or milk tea when having breakfast. I just take a small cup of filter water during lunch time. We usually will have soup when having dinner. We mostly would prepare our homemade vegetable soup or chicken plus Chinese herbal soup. We cook the soup for at least 2 hours. I like the yummy soup very much, so I don’t take any beverage during dinner. My husband and I would like to take hot coffee and desserts during our evening tea time Have a nice day and happy posting!

It’s really nutritious and good for our health as well. We could prepare it either using a slow cooker or pressure cooker. But it is believed that the best one is to prepare on the charcoal stove for several hours. There is popular restaurant here which is popular of its famous and yummy Chinese herbal soup. A small soup bowl of is 5 us dollars or so. It usually depends on the ingredients used. Some even more expensive.

Usually we drink tea, or kool aid if we are home, when we're out it's usually sierra mist or sprite, whichever one the restaurant has. We drink milk usually just to drink some milk, but never for a particular meal. Of course we have milk in our cereal. We don't drink much juices, but I like Orange and Apple Juice. My faince is allergic to oranges, so I've gotten used to not drinking orange juice.

I don't think that I have had Pink Lemonade flavor in a long time, however, non Kool Aid, I do enjoy Pink Lemonade, I believe Tropicana makes Pink Lemonade that they serve in a two liter bottle, in the soft drink aisle. Not sure that they have that on the juice or frozen juice aisle though.

I like to have water with my meals.Sometimes in night i prefer to take cold drink with my meals because it is the time when i can really relax and enjoy my food. Chicken and milk do not go together. If we have chicken, then we do not milk afterwords as it is not good for digestive system. I prefer to prepare milk shakes like banana shake and mango shake in the morning and drink with my toasts in breakfast.

I have a different drink with different types of food too. Like, if it's hot pizza I like to have soda or iced tea. If it's cold soda I drink milk. Haha, I know... I'm odd. When my children were with me I was more strict about what was drank at what meal. We got a lot of milk from the WIC program so every night they had to drink milk with their dinner. Unless it was a special occasion and then they could drink soda. We had a lot of juice throughout the day. And during the summer I kept 'stir em up' packets in the car (those little packets of powdered drink mix that you pour in a bottle of water.) If we got thirsty while running errands I'd stop by McDonalds and pick up some free water. Then we would pour our packets in to make a more pleasing kids drink. I even found zero sugar drinks like this to. And during the winter we used those immune booster drink things in the car.

What are those immune booster things you're talking about?
• United States
14 Jun 09
You find them in the same part of your grocery store that you get the 'stir em up singles' Usually by the powdered drink mixes. It is a box of single powdered drink mixes and they say 'immunity boosters' on the box. I think they are full of vitamins or something. I'm not sure. I like mine to be a little diluted it's milder tasting that way.

Milk with dinner, breakfreast, and other things for lunches. At home, anyway. Tend to have soda with dinner or juice with breakfast if I go out to eat. I tend to like to have tea or juice for lunches and save soda for snack times or special occasions. Although sometimes I'm just in the mood for water.

For my case, it's usually because we don't have soda that often in the house...so since going out is a treat, a rare enough occurance in and of itself, I order soda. I can't say about anybody else, though. ^_^

I drink tea with each meal. I suppose being typically British, that has always been my preferred beverage. Although I must admit to once being totally addicted to strong black coffee - but that wasn't doing me much good, so I went back to tea. - Derek

Yes, I do feel thirsty after I eat and I would say that tea quenches that thirst, but perhaps not so much as water would, but I drink water at other times of the day, and rarely at meal times. - Derek

Like you, when I was little, it didn't matter what was for dinner, we were served a large glass of milk to wash everything down. There was no debate or choice, that's what we got. Even if we didn't like what was for dinner and choose not to eat, we had to drink our milk before we left the table. Now, I drink mostly diet soda. I know it's not the best thing to drink, and I will drink milk or juice occasionally, and I do drink a fair amount of water, but the soda is usually what I want.

I wish I could get used to diet soda because I know it's better calorie-wise for me, but I haven't found one that I like that doesn't have that funny diet taste afterwards.
