Guess what I am writing this discussion on?

Well my computer, of course, now. I actually "wrote" several discussions on a piece of paper towel. I always forget paper to write on. I think of discussions then I forget them when I get home. So I went in the service area at the toll road. I was washing my ands and there was an almost empty roll of paper towels sitting on the counter. I tore off a decent sized piece and wrote several discussion ideas. What do you do when you are away from home and think of discussions to start? Where do you write your future discussions down?

I usually make a mental note not to forget...and of course I forget. That's why I answer more discussions than I start. I keep thinking about buying one of those cheap little voice recorder/keychains, but of course I don't think of it while I'm actually shopping. I do best if I call my home phone and leave myself a message.

I have a small hand-held recorder and never remember to take it with me. I bought it for just the purpose of recording something that I thought about when I was out in the car. And the recorder stays home all the time. It is voice-recognition, so it could stay on while I was in the car - that is, if I ever remembered to take it with me.

They make little ones that clip onto your key ring. I think they only have 2 or 3 minutes of recording time, but that could be enough if you can summarize ideas. My old boss had a voice activated hand held one. In addition to recording his thoughts, he also had a record of passing gas....

Oh my, that is funny about the gas. I do not know if I would be faithful enough to transcribe from a recorder.

I always come up with discussion ideas at the strangest times and then end up forgetting them whenever I get home no matter how great I think they are or how much I think about what I'm going to put in them. You know what I mean? If you have a really good idea about a discussion your mind starts to wander and you get it all written out in your head and then you think because it's so great you surely won't forget it later when you want to come on and Mylot. I started putting a little note pad by the side of the bed because at night when I'm laying in there watching t.v. and trying to fall asleep that's when I come up with a lot of them so the notepad on the nightstand really has been a big help. But if I'm out and about I'll write my ideas on anything I can find. I've written on napkins, the backs of menus, my mail that I've gotten, an empty check register, like I said whatever I can find. Once I even had to use eyeliner and write it on ssome toilet paper. That's totally embarrassing for me to admit in front of everyone here, but hey I'm being honest. I'm sure there are other people here who have done stranger things than that. At least I hope there are, lol!

Hey, I think you have topped me. I did use black nail polish to alter alphabet beads for my clients because we were out of vowels, but that is a different topic.

When my mom had her stroke, I had to have something to write things down as they happened and the dates and so forth plus I needed to have everyone's phone number just in case so on one of my many errands that I ran for my dad, I had gotten a medium sized notebook pad to keep all of my important information on and to write things down that I needed to remember. So maybe that's an idea for you to do? Mine fits right inside my purse so it goes everywhere I go so I'm never out of paper. lol

I do have some, just did not have any with me. I am out of the practice of getting to travel. I think I may put a little notebook in my travel bag that I always leave packed. That is more certain than my purse.

I have a cute little note book I use. Or I put ideas in my journal. I have even torn out the last or first pages of books to write on. I always carry a book with me. I also have written on paper cups, doilies, my hand, and even my back pack. I usually have paper though and have been lucky to carry something I can write on. I learned early in life to carry paper at all costs.

Well, I'm forever needing something to write on when I'm out. I always have envelopes in my purse, either a letter, or a bill, and I just write on them until they look like a mess! I write grocery lists, names, devotions, discussions, you name it! When I'm in church and think of something, I write on the pad I keep with my Bible. My husband writes on 'anything' here at home! It might be a papertowel, napkin - just anything his hands get hold of! I guess what matters is getting the material on paper so you won't forget.

I tend to be a flow writer and being a novice at starting discussions , I hadn't yet figured out I should write them down ahead. Thanks for the tip.

You do not have to write them down first, I am more like you and I just write them into the computer. It is just traveling that is a problem for me.

That is too funny. Some of my most creative discussions come to me while I am driving in my car between clients. I grab my pen from my clipboard and jot down the idea on whatever I can find. This usually ends up in the trashcan. So much for those creative discussions!

right now, nothing, I am so stressed out trying to find a new job that I have no interest in starting discussions here. But heck what every works for you that is what counts.

Have your writing jobs come to an end then. Or did you mean trying to find a new home?

I have lots of scrap paper here at home. Hubby still uses other things. I may need to put that on my packing list.

Good question. Back of grocery lists, back of grocery receipts, back of my dog and cat food job's sales stats sheets, back of my schedule planner, basically anywhere I can find.

We do what is necessary, or we lose the thought. I cannot afford to lose anything else from my brain.

I've been known to use the note feature on my cell phone. Since your brain is always working and looking for discussion topics, I suggest carrying around a little pocket spiral notebook so you don't have to resort to etching them out on stone tablets.

Travel has never been something i care anything about. guess if i'd had someone who liked to & had wanted me to go it might have been different. I never have liked going anywhere by myself so i have never missed traveling.

They say you are supposed to have a notebook by your bed as well. I have all kinds of notebooks and I could probably have hijacked the one hubby uses for fuel mileage. The towels were just an impulse.

I have been known to write on napkins and paper towels, but I draw the line at using my hand. I have seen many people write phone numbers down on their palms. That I could not do. I wash my hands too often and would surely lose the number that way. Sometimes, I code the numbers as letters though and make a sketch of things that start with each letter, or try to memorize a series of images in my mind's eye that start with those letters. For instance if the number started out 351, I would think of a Cat riding an Elephant past a sign pointing to Amsterdam.

I wash my hands too much as well. I think the mental pictures work for some things, and I will use the photos I took to jog my memory about others. Some just did not work as pictures, though.

well,i think this is a good ieda, when we use our brain too much,we always forgets something just happened a few time ago.So if we have this situation.we can put some note in our pocket. When we go out.we can see it anytime.just like a schedule .it's useful aren't they?

Hi GardenGerty...Mine usually end up on the backs of all the junk mail I get. I guess it saves me on paper and Ii may as well get some use out of it before I shred or burn it.
I have been drawing a blank for awhile now and have not been able to come up with very many discussions or someone beats me to the discussion subject.
Hopefully I will be able to get on a roll soon...LOL
