Why do parents act like they do?

I think its all because they want you to be what they wanted to be.

our parents just want the best for us and let us always remember that they have experienced what we're experiencing now so they know more hat will be better for us. sometimes kids are too sensitive that they mistaken their parents guide/concern into leading their lives...sometimes its really hard to understand but you will understand it better when you yourself become a parent! :-) have a nice day! :-)

Well, sometimes parents do things that they think will guide you the right way. They mean well, most of the time, even though it may not always turn out that way. I know that the closer it got to me moving out, the more overbearing my mother got. At 17, she tried to give me a curfew of 9:00 and she started refusing to take me over to my boyfriend's house or picking me up from them and then she'd get mad when I got him to give me a ride or something. She thought I was making a mistake because I was moving out and living with him. But here I am, 9 or 10 months later, engaged and more financially stable than even she is! There are plenty of other examples, but what it comes down to is that they've had certain life experiences that they don't want to see repeated. They're always afraid that their children will make the same mistakes they will and they want to avoid that at all costs, even if sometimes they go about it the wrong way. When my mother moved out with her boyfriend, it ended up bad. Really bad. I won't go into details, but I know that she doesn't want me to go through anything like that and that's what she was afraid of, even though she knew it was different. So you just have to be a little patient with your parents. :) It might be hard sometimes, but they really do just want to help you!
