Today, Thursday the 11th of June, President Obama was here in Green Bay Wisconsin. He was starting his tour of whistle stop town hall meetings. Normally I don't watch all that stuff because I wasn't interested in anything the last president had to say. But today they had it on all the local television stations live as it was going on. Anyway, during the course of the question and answer portion of the speech where he took the public's questions a man stood up to ask him something. Before he asked his question though he told Obama that his daughter was missing a half a day of school to be there with him while he saw the president. Before he could finish his question President Obama ask him with a smile if his daughter needed a note to excuse her from school and then asked what her name was. The guy stated to give his name and the president said "No, what is your daughter's name?" The man said "Her name is Kennedy." The president told him what a cool name that was and then took out a pen while asking the man to finish his question. While the guy asked the question the president was writing and when the president gave him his answer, before he went on to the next person, he said "Here you go Kennedy." He actually wrote the little girl a note to excuse her from school as a keepsake and sent it back to her.
I thought that was the neatest thing. They were talking about it all over the news today and everyone was clapping after he did that. I don't think I've ever seen a president do something like that during a speech. It was a really nice thing to see and will be something I won't forget. It was really cool for him to do that don't you think?

I thought it was cute when I heard about it. It's a nice keepsake for a child...I just hope it doesn't turn up on Ebay.

Yes, that was a very cool thing to do, something that will impress not only that child, but many others for a long time to come. President Obama seems very much legitimate in his genuine interest in the country, and in us, her people. That was on the news today in Michigan, too, and it made me feel good to see it : )

I thought it was pretty cool, too. That little girl, no matter what her political leanings end up being as she grows up, will always remember this day and this moment. So what that she didn't really "need" the excuse. I'd think this was a pretty nice thing for a President to do no matter who was President.

What was the point? The report I heard said it was her last day of school. Half of the kids don't even show up on the last day.

It was a nice gesture but was it for show? I think that he feels that he can fix anything because he is in charge. Look at the lady who complained aobut being homeless and he told his people to fix it while others waited in line for the help she was moved to the front of the line.

His favorite saying "Yes we can" is one of my favorites, after some of the other p[eople in office beofre him like the "Decider" himself I hope he listens more to the people than his Vice President. But we all have out own opinions and that's why I love this site. Sometimes when people disagree with me they bring up points I would have never consiered before and change my wayof thinking in certain situations. Thanks for your comment.:)

That has some of the same feeling as Lincoln writing to the families of the wounded soldiers.

That was a very special day for me as it was the one and only time I have ever seen or heard of Obama doing anything I considered to be remotely cool. Of course it could also have been a prearranged deal or a plant to make him seem like a nice guy!!

I thought the story was great. The little girl will have this note for the rest of her life. She will frame it and be able to show it to her kids one day. What a story. This little girl will be so inspired by what he did for her and it will probably give her more confidence in life, I believe. A handwritten note from the President is something very special. President Obama is so down to earth I just think he is a wonderful thoughful man. I just hope the teacher lets her keep the note. LOL LOL LOL!

I saw that this morning...I thought it was cool to see! I do not agree with him on very much politically; however he is a people's president.. he stops to do the "small stuff"... his personableness is a plus for sure...

That is a wonderful thing! I do like this president for his humanity and the compassion he has for the people. His politics may not be pleasing to everyone, but he demonstrates that he is a real person and sensitive to everyone's needs.

I read this the other day, and I thought it was really neat that President Obama would do that. What an awsome thing for any president to do, and I wish that more past presents could have been like him. I also wish that there will be many future "presiden Obamas" to come.

it is definitely cool to get an excuse letter signed by the president of the United States. I imagine if the child will actually the letter to his teacher or will the child just keep it to herself as a memorabilia and may even frame it. or may be sell it off online for auction. That could be a possibility. or maybe the teacher can sell it if he or she received the excuse letter. who nows, maybe some people will be interested to buy that online or bid for that on auction few years from now or eve at the present.
cause we all know what ridiculous items are being auctioned off if the item is associated to famous people. i may be wrong though that this may be worth selling. it just crossed my mind.

Wow, another great story! Obama is really good at public relations. This is a great example of his skills.
I heard this story on the news (the tail end of it, anyway). The little girl is really smart! She plans on framing the note because it may one day be very valuable or at least something great to show off to her friends.
