I am just curious. Have any of you actually been helped by the new programs that are supposed to be out there to help people who got themselves in over their heads with run away adjustable rate mortgages and upside down loans, lost income, etc. There has been a lot of media coverage about these supposed programs and how the banks have supposedly been mandated to help people save their homes. Has anyone actually seen it in action? Are there real companies out there that can help you do this or is it all just a political farce?? I know of MANY people who are struggling and near to or actually loosing their homes and who have had NO luck and no help at all. Sure there are these new companies that will take your money, anywhere from $500. up to do a loan modification for you, but do they ever actually happen?? So far I have seen absolutely no results. I have seen the banks involved drag people along in the pretense of evaluating the situation for months, only to come back and say "you don't qualify". In my opinion they are prolonging it and hoping to let the people get so far behind that they can never catch up! Then what do they do? They foreclose and sell the home to someone else for WAY less than the original owner owed! Wouldn't it make more sense, even for the banks, to work with the original owner, lower the interest rate and the payment, and collect the full amount in the long run? What has this country come to?!?!? Can anyone share their experience or shed some light on this financial disaster? It infuriates me when I see friends and neighbors who have worked hard all their lives loose their homes and have no one willing to help them in spite of all the empty promises we have heard!

The main gripe that I have to give about the process of getting a loan modification is that it is something that takes so very long for it to go through. We started the process of getting a loan modification our house in July and the trial loan modification was not even approved until the very beginning of December. We then have to make three trial payments on the modified loan and we've made two of those three payments, the third payment is not due until the first of March. After that has happened, I have no clue how long it is going to take before the final loan modification is approved. But in direct answer to your question, I have to say that our mortgage company has been able to help our family.
