It's Indonesian cooking at it's finest, and I'm wondering how many people here on myLot have tried it. It's a fried rice dish that has a bit in common with curried rice, and a lot in common with a stir-fry.

Hi MetricJester, Yes I have often eaten Nasi Goreng. Not only in Indonesia but in Malaysia and in Singapore. Like a lot of other Indonesian dishes it is really good. I have been experimenting with my own variations at home and have had a few lovely meals although not quite up to the standard made in Indonesia. I will keep trying.

Try using leeks instead of onions, and if you have a dutch import shop they should sell a simple to use spice mix for Nasi Goreng and Bahmi Goreng. Your local asian food store should carry Ketjap, which really makes or breaks the dish.

Hi MetricJester, Thanks for you tips. I will try leeks. I grow them in my garden and have them in the freezer all year round. My local Asian shop is good and I buy a lot there but I am in Asia every year and always bring a lot of spices etc. back with me.
