maturity: how do you define it?

How do you define maturity? What makes you say that a person is mature/immature? Do you know someone who is mature? How? Personally, I believe that a persons quest for maturity will never end, in a sense that he/she is bound to learn something new about everything- his personality, about other people, etc. What about you?

Hello there, JamieRose. You have a very beautiful name. I think maturity is when one is very wise into making a difficult decision and doesn't believe rumors and creating juvenile crimes. There are just loads of definition to maturity. It also means when one makes sacrifices for their love ones, it shows great maturity too. Giving up something for something good, and maturity comes with age and experiences too. Have a nice day.

Thanks for the reply. I believe that maturity doesn't automatically come with age. But, it SHOULD. Being old doesn't automatically mean one is mature.

Pleasure. You are right. There are some young people but can shoulder heavy responsibilities well, and still being calm about it.

I feel someone is immature when they're acting in a manner that has a negative effect on a particular situation, without thinking or caring about how their actions are affecting the situation. For example, if person A has lost a loved one and person B comes along and makes a sick joke about dying. When person B realises their error, if they don't care or show no guilt I'd call them immature because a person with at least an ounce of maturity would realise not that they shouldn't have made the joke but that they should at least apologise for the inconvenience of their timing. I think a person will never really reach full maturity because maturity comes from learning and there's always something new to learn throughout life.

I think maturity has a wide range of definition. You can't judge someone based on the outer looks alone. Sometimes he/she may dress a bit childish but has a mature thinking. He/she might dress up maturely and talk well but may have a kid's mind in accepting things. I think no one is mature enough. It's like a quote that I once read, 'we're all kids, we only get bigger'
