Why do you think people smoke? Does it all start with the "image" of being cool like to what we see in movies? Curiosity? To be in? Why do you think people smoke?

Hi Jamierose , I started to smoke when I was in high school . I guess it was peer
pressure. I wanted to fit in and be just like the ones I was hanging around with . Now I'm 54 years old and I quit smoking only 3 months ago . Sometimes I really want to smoke out of habit , but I do something to get my mind off of it .
I guess Guitarpunk is right about it relieving stress , because many times when I get upset , that is when I want to smoke more then ever . Other then that it is just a strong habit , that is hard to stop .

I have to agree with you, as I am a smoker myself. But I'm not a chain smoker :) I believe that smoking makes us feel good, because it relieves stress and tension. But I also believe that the reason why we started smoking in the first place is out of curiousity and peer pressure. What do you think?

We are not born smokers. No one is. But a long the way, we became one.
For the first timers, I believe some of the reasons why they try to smoke are: out of curiosity, pressure from friends and releases tension. But to be addicted to it is another story. And once you are addicted, it is really hard to get away from it.

I don't smoke but i believe that people smoke for a lot of different reasons, but they continue smoking most likely because it turns into habit and is addictive.
