to dance well,it has to start with passion.being a good dancer doesn't have to do with where dance school you studied.a good dancer is someone who treats dancing like "the love of his/her life".you enjoy dancing as a whole and you don't give it up easily, especially if you find the steps hard.if you don't find any passion in dancing,it's pointless to enroll yourself in a dance school.

Well I would say no to your question ddenz11.It's not really compulsory to attend a dancing class in order to dance well. Most street dancers if I am not wrong they learn on their own by instructional DVD's,internet videos on youtube etc etc etc.But ofcourse it would be better if you go to a dance school and have a dance instructor. This way you can have a clear explanation from your instructor and do the right moves step by step with him.And yeah you can ask questions and get an immediate answer ofcourse compared to leaving comments on youtube and they'll reply 1 day later? But yeah my point is it's not compulsory to attend a dance class to dance well.Happy Dancing!Anyways what genre are you learning right now?

Well I am sure you can watch a lot of your tube videos and learn just from watching people dance.. but personally I became one of the best dancers in my studio from taking dance classes I was horrible at 1st.. but then I actually became a choreographer there so it was very beneficial.

I do not believe dance is 100% natural talent, but rather (usually) a combination of natural abilities as well as learned skill. If you're just going out for a more social kind of dance (such as going to the prom or dancing at clubs), then formal training is not necessary in order to be considered "good." If you're going to be a performer, however (as in ballet, jazz, tap, modern, et al.), then a certain amount of formal training would be essential in order to dance to your full potential. To make a career out of dance, one has to be developed properly. The number of years of formal training required vary from dancer to dancer, but during the early years especially it is important to receive instruction from a professional, because all forms of dance are specified techniques, and you need to make sure you're doing every movement correctly to minimize the risk of injury or doing permanent damage to your body. But like I said, as far as dancing in a more social setting goes, it is not essential that you attend a dance school.

Hi there!
I don't think that going to a dance school is the only way to be able to dance well. There are lots of instructional dvds, even videos in the internet that you can watch to learn more about dancing. Watch, imitate the moves, practice and take your new dance skills to a test drive.
