Wow! I was surfing around on youtube..I'm always looking for good conversation pieces on there...and this little fluke suggested video pops up on the side...hmm..I click on it and it says mature content..click bar to assure your age..so I did...Low and behold there is a woman giving BIRTH!! Oh my! And there are many videos on there of this! Ok..I have given brth and if anyone comes near me with a camera..it might be a very bad day for them..LOL..Granted childbirth is a beautiful thing but to publicly display it..well...I don't know about that. What do you think? I've not posted a link because of the fact that the videos are so graphic but they are easy to find if you go there and are interested. Do you think childbirth should be displayed on youtube? Do you think that they should be so easily accessable if they are on there? I just had to click a bar saying I was 18.

since im about to give birth, these videos actually helps me to learn more about giving birth and not to be afraid for this new experience. so for me its really an advantage. there are lots of videos there, natural birth or lamaze, water birth, c-section birth and others. so i believe that this are educational for some and answers the curiosity for others on how a child is born.. :-)

Hi JenInTN, I undertand about your feelings, this is what I felt when I watched one of those videos in Youtube! I'm married and yet to have a child now. All I've heard about birth is throug my mom whom explain the feelings and emotions that she went through her labour. But when I myself witnessed the videos, I didn't feel shameful but I appreciated the motherhood of the gilr/lady in that video. The pain and devastation she went through is massive!
I believe, we must appreciate the sharing mind!

Hi candy..these videos may come in very handy to someone that is a new mom to be with limited access to information. You do have to take your hats off to the women that suffer so to bring in new life. I think it's ok for them but for me..well..that's another story. I was not very easy to get along with during my childbirths and would not have had a camera anywhere near me...LOL...thanks for the input.

It's not so uncommon to film a childbirth but I wouldn't think someone would upload it on youtube. Now after reading this I watched one of those videos and it was pretty interesting because I've never seen a woman giving birth so I guess it can be informative.

This is why I have a filter installed on the computer my seven year old uses! She would be traumatised seeing something like that, but having said that I am her parent and it is solely my responsibility to ensure she doesn’t see inappropriate material on the Internet.
Personally, been there and done that and I have no real desire to see someone else doing it or being filmed while doing it! I guess that if you think about all the content of the Internet, a video of a woman giving birth is probably not too big a deal; I wouldn’t encourage my daughter to see for a long, long time yet. I suppose it could be educational in some way...Not sure really...I’ll pass on this one...

I agree if a camera ever came near me during childbirth I'd probably jump off the table and give birth while kicking a** lol. I think it is a beautiful thing, but I would never want someone to sit around watching it, especially if I didn't know them. For teenage girls, i think it might help, but there are so many wierd people on the internet prbably watching it for other reasons. I just really wouldn't want anyone, but my husband to sure that moment with me. My mother forced her way in when I had my daughter and I was really uncomfortable with that situation.

LOL!!! I would be kicking some a$$ too! My partners momm tried to come in on me with my last one and I run her right back out..lol..didn't do much for our relationship but she understood later. If someone else wants to do it..that's fine..but it's not for me.

I don't think there is a problem with people posting videos of childbirth on youtube but I personally feel it's bad taste to do so. I know some people may feel that they want to share their happiness with the whole world, there is such a thing as over sharing. I don't know, call me old fashioned, but I believe child birth to be a beautiful and sacred thing. I don't believe it should be broadcasted over the net for everyone to see but those are my own personal values. I respect that people can do what they wish. Should youtube make it harder to view adult content on their site? They could do a little more but probably not much that would deter a 10 year old.

It is a beautiful and sacred thing..nothing old fashioned about that. I don't think badly of the families that post their childbirth on there but I know it's not going to be me..lol. There have been a couple of replies that see these videos as eduacational oppertunities, I can see that point by willing participates but it's really not for me. Thanks for the input on this.

I think child birth is like anything else, if those involved don't care and it isn't hurting anyone then why not. Those that don't care for it or don't agree don't have to look. Sorry, this time I don't agree with the 'i don't know about that'. It might help some young person not sure if she wants to go ahead with the pregnancy or whatever. Mature content? Anyone can see on Youtube. Now that is one thing I am opposed to.

I think children should be given knowledge of things as it appears they are curious and it is appropriate. I have seen several situations with friends kids where the parents didn't let the kids know about things and it was harmful to them. I think if things are done in a nice way alot can be accomplished. Kids need to know in this harsh world.

I do think it can hold a lot of educational value. I "don't know about that" being my rear end on there giving birth..lol..I would not want to publicly display my childbirthing experiences. I'm ok with others doing as they please as long as it is not hurting anyone. I can moniter my children's internet as far as that goes..maybe even let them see one when they reach the age I feel is appropriate. Thanks for responding and take care.

It was interesting..lol..there were live childbirths in water and at home. There were natural childbirths..I was amazed at the people that wanted to publicly display their labor. I wouldn't want to at all but I'm more of a pruvate person I guess. Thanks for responding.

Well I have never given birth but Iv seen footage of woman giving birth before and if or when I do have a child I would not want the event displayed all over TV or in this case the net, I would probably want some video shots of the moments after the birth, in the hospital, but not during the actual birth, and I would defintly not want anyone watching it like that, and I agree that posting or uploading that kind of thing for small children to view seems like a bit much.

Hi Jenn! Good to have some nature knowledge. Before publishing someone else's video, I think is good to seek their consent, if she is ok why not. Anything on-line can be easily accessed but parent is responsible to block those prohibited sites. I know there is a way to block from your browser but I just don't know how...hehehe.

Truthfully, I have no problems with viewing live births on YouTube. I actually find them informative especially that I haven't given birth yet. While watching them, I also wonder if they were embarassed or not but it seems always the latter because most of them were very proud. I, on the other hand, would not want that kind of experience to be filmed; watching them is really enough for me. As for the age confirmation, everyone can really cheat by saying they were over 18 but in fact they were not.
