We often take for granted the little things that really matter such as taking good care of our eyes by doing eye exercise. I know some exercises that my optometrist recommended to me one of this is to every 20 minutes you have to look farther than your pc like staring at a tree and just try to relax your eyes to its greenery or you could blink your eyes 20 times every 20 minutes I guess she says every 20 minutes because it has something to do with 20 -20 vision which is a perfect vision for a human eyes and by doing this one could actually have a good eyesight even how long you stay online on your PC. actually there are lots of ways and exercises for the eyes do you know of this care to share?

Hi Dan, how are you? Eye exercise? I have heard of it, and I do try to move my eyes away from the PC. But no real exercise. If I feel like my eyes need help, I put on my glasses or do something other than the computer things. I used to wear glasses for 3 years. I was around 28/29. I could not see far things. This is trouble when you are on the highway and cannot read the signs! hahaha! After three years I wanted contact lenses and got my eyes checked for it. Seemed my eyes had bettered themselves and if I were to not wear glasses, that would be the same as wearing contacts. So, I slowly started wearing my glasses less. When I got tired everything was far away. Put on my glasses and it was back to normal. After 6 months I rarely needed my glasses anymore. I just listened to my eyes so to speak. And today I hardly every wear them. When I put on my glasses now , I cannot see far things anymore. But for reading and the computer they are still great. But, even then I don't usually wear them. Getting enough rest, and trying not to worry to much is the best exercise for my eyes. hahaha! Take care, have a great day.

Washing your face should not be a bad thing for your eyes, unless you use soap to wash your eyes with. Blurry vision, is normally a sign that you need to rest. I don't always read with light on either. But when I get tired, I either put on my glasses or (mostly) I just stop reading and do something else. Forcing your eyes to work hard is not good. Eating good meals and sleeping regular hours is good for your health and eye sight. Take care, and put on the lights, hahaha!

hmmm if only I have this advice a little earlier then I could prevent from having an eye defect by now. I could not see far things I abuse my eyes when i was still in high school, reading a lot and after that I washed my face after that or reading with not much light on only now that I am conscious with my eyes since I have a high grade already.

I appreciate your encouragement about my eyes but as i said age, aneurysm & cataracts all work againist my eyesight. U do have a big job taking care of your sister but u are very lucky to have. my only sister was killed in 1962 in a car wreck.I WOULD gladly take care of her if she was still alive. U want regret what u are doing & i know your sister must be very proud of you for taking care of her. Wait till that sweet baby gets here, it will all be worth it then. IS it going to be a boy or a girl? aAS long as it is healthy that's the main thing.

The exercise you mentioned has been around for a long time. I knew about it when I was in primary school. The eye rolling exercise came later on. I am not going into details because they have been covered by you and the others. Have you tried reflexology? This is my third line of defence to minimise the deterioration of the eye sight. At least once a day massage the area said to be connected to the eyes. You need to apply some pressure using maybe your fingernail. The area is below the first and second toes on the foot itself. Do it on both feet. Another thing to remember is reduce your sugar intake especially if you are working long hours using a computer. all the best, rosdimy

if your referring about the one on the foot reflexology then yes I have tried it but not many times since it hurts a lot an expert do it to me and she put lots of pressure to my foot well I guess thats an initial reaction for first timers lol well I still like the after effect to that. and I am not into much of a sugar so no problem to that thanks for the additional input my friend.

I had to do some eye exercises when i was younger, had some problem with one or both of my eyes. Nothing serious just like i couldnt focus on things properly. I used to get to leave school early for it anyway lol. But then after doing those exercises it went away and since that i have had perfect vision so far, so i would recommend doing them to anybody! I still do the exercises i got given sometimes, or the ones i remember!

I have been doing eye exercise for years. I was told to make circles with my eyes then side to side motions, then up and down ten times to strengthen the eye muscles. Close the eye for 20 seconds then look far away to the top of a tree for 20 seconds. To soothe the eyes put cold slices of cucumber on them for 3 minutes. The eyes will feel rested and will look clearer. Staring at a PC screen for hours is not good for any ones eyes. Just like your body the eyes need a break ever so often.

You started a good discussion coz it reminds us of the importannce of eye exercise. I'm sure most mylotters have to spend at least 1 hour here every day, which does great harm to our eyes. So we should pay great attention to eye exercise. Just as your optometrist recommended, we'd better look farther than our pc like staring into a tree or just look into the distance to relax our eyes. When we're working in front of the computer, we often fix our eyes steadily on the screen for a long time, forgetting to roll eyes frequently. Now, it's the high time we started doing eye exercise, and I recommend two ways of protecting our eyes. The first one is remember to roll your eyes at least 10 times/per minute; and the other one is to twist your eyes for at least 5 minutes every hour. Wish all mylotters good luck!

thanks my friend well many of us take for granted the simple little simple thing that could harm us in the long run thats why I started this discussion just so. to remind all in my own indirect way that we have to take care of our eyes.

Hello :) Yes, my eye doctor recommended the same thing. At the computer, we tend to blink less often, which lets the eyes become dry. Also, staring at the same source for hours on end causes strain. So I do once every half hour or so stare at something more distant. I also put my eyes through a short "range of motion" exercise: look up, down, left, right. Or just close them every so often and count to 30. These are the ones I know. :) Karen

Hi, i do not know much about those eyes exercises, but i do agree that looking far or look at green things do help to relax our eyes, after looking at our computer screen for some time. Taking a short break and rest the eyes can help to reduce the tiredness of the eyes too. Close the eyes and softly massage it and you will feel better. Besides, taking food or fruit which contain carotine is also good for our eyes health. Carrot is one of them that i know which are good for eyes health. Just a sharing of my opinions. Thanks..

thanks my friends yes it is essential for too to eat healthy foods as you say and do some exercise that would eventually prevent low eye vision, for my experience it is really a bad thing to have a bad eyesight. And with this exercise it help me relax my eyes and prevent from headache in the long run.

I stay in front of the monitor for looong hours. And truthfully, it has been straining my eyes too much. I am aware of the exercises that you can do to help your eyes relax. Unfortunately, I am a great offender. You can say that I am neglecting myself. Yes, hey I should be accountable for the consequences.

yes my friend but come to think of it just try to think of the consequences then you would see the importance of little things that really matter I too am like you but because of the side effects like headache I rather do this things as they say prevention is better than cure lol

I have no idea of eye exercise though my eyes are very weak. I wear contact lenses all the time and on top of that, staring at the PC, dries out my eyes and makes them tired. I do give them rest from time to time and I also use artificial tears to keep them lubricated.
@HelScream (2822)

my sister wear contacts before and because of misuse of the contact she got both her eyes operated of cyst and she also use lubricant as you call artificial tears right. Well just an advice in case you dont know never use a contact that has already dried up and dont try lubricating them after they dried up just buy another one instead.

It is actually a way to tell us not to focus our attention and eyes on the computer for too long a time so as not to strain the eye. It is a habit difficult to cultivate. I tried many times to remind myself not to glue my eyes to the screen but somehow, it is difficult to follow.

I doubt that "20/20" has anything to do with it, but there's definitely nothing wrong with the doctor's idea. Keeping one's eyes "fit" is just as good as keeping one's body fit. After all, aren't the eyes ARE part of our body too? Indeed they are. cdrxo

Yes, these exercises are really helpful. They were recommended to me by an Eye Specialist. Actually, looking farther improves your focusing power which might increase or decrease(hypermetropia & myopia)if you sit continuously in front of pc. And green color is always soothing for eye, so they say you should view green areas. Also, I was said walking on grass might improve eye sight as well. Though, I don't see a reason for that.

maybe what he mean is walking and watching the grass while you walk well I am not sure about that. well at least now I know that my docs theory is proven since you shared the same knowledge as I do.
