Try an easy experiment. Pour some cola on a rusty iron. Check it out later and you'd see some of the rust off. That is because cola is like some kind of cleaner or detergent. Imagine drinking that. How much damage can it do to your intestines... And the blood sugar as well.

I am particular about cola because studies have shown how detrimental these are to the health. As to the other canned drinks, I am not sure because I do not exactly seek them out in the grocery. I purchase pineapple drinks once in a while, the unsweetened one. Diabetes is a major concern. I am on insulin already.

This is so true jemaenise. Our house help for almost 40 years have diabetes. But i don't know if the main cause of her having the disease is "drinking sodas/softdrinks". The sad part is that her condition got worst when she got herself wounded in her left foot last May. She didn't bother to tell us her condition and after a month she developed a gangrene in almost 50% of her foot and the infection spread rapidly affecting the functioning of her body parts. She was brought to the hospital June 1st because she passed out while doing some of her routine at home. And it was very devastating for us to find out that she needed an operation and her left foot must be amputated. It was scary and sad. We loved her so much she became a part of our family. Now she's already out in the hospital, I haven't talked to her yet because I was far away from home for my schooling. I'm sure this is very difficult for her but I hope she could come out of it still with a strong spirit and would still want to pursue life as she did back before the operation .
Lesson learned: Value our health, give importance to our body and don't let any chances of acquiring any kind of illnesses pass within our limits. We have no right to abuse our body, unless you want to die at an early age. :)
Just want to share the motto of my cousin dondi: "EAT CLEAN, TRAIN MEAN, STAY LEAN", and from now on that is just what i'm gonna do.

My biology professor, who brings a bottle of Diet Coke to class everyday, says that Coke doesn't hurt the intestines because the acidity level in the stomach is already high to digest food so the acidity of the coke wouldn't like erode the intestines. She teaches biology so I think I can believe what she says. Still, all that sugar and caffeine isn't good for the body so I try to not drink soda as much as I can. Happy mylotting.

I have always been addicted to sodas, just for the fizz. In recent years I have found that I cannot abide the level of sugar in them but still want my fizz so I first opted for Club Soda, which contains some salt which is not too good for me, either, so when they came out with Seltzer Water that contains nothing but the carbonated water, I was thrilled. My favorite way to have my seltzer is with a squeeze of lime in it. No sugar, no artificial sweeteners and no salt. It's a good way to get my fizz and my water without the health risks of the high sugar content.
If you're worried about the acid in cola, the article listed above is very good. The real threat in sodas are the sweeteners. Whether sugar or artificial sweetener, they are not good for you...especially when you're diabetic AND allergic to artificial sweeteners like me. :)

P.S. Want to try a real treat? Get a can of frozen lemonade or fruit punch and mix it with seltzer water instead of tap water. YUMMY!
