I usually open my windows and try to ignore it hoping it will go away, if not I try and usher it in the direction of the window, and I am sure I look quite comical doing this.
The other thing I do occassionaly is make my own fly trap which is basically a jam jar half full of orange juice (or anything fruity) and washing up liquid. I put some cling film over the top and poke a hole in the middle of it. 9 times out of 10 the fly will find it within half an hour and be stuck in there till you get rid of it. I've found these last for about a week before you have to get rid of them due to the smell.

What a great tip! I hadn't heard that. I think Ravinskye up there could use this idea, lol!

Just one fly? If it was just one fly I would consider myself lucky! lol. I kid you not one day we decided to go "fly hunting". I gave the girls both a fly swatter and I had one too. We came up with 27 fly bodies and there were still one or two flying around that we couldn't catch! If there is just one it doesn't usually bother me. Unless it is one of those ones who with all the landing surface in the house decides to keep landing on me instead!

I've done that once or twice. I used to have a silly little song I'd sing when I did it too. I'm really hoping this one fly doesn't lead to more, it's so disgusting! I would clean every inch of my house, especially the garbage, and never see any reason the flies would like my house so much, but somehow I'd still have dozens of them! I had 3 fly strips around the house too! Ewww.

Hi there Cat's Meow. I actually do all of those things: usually catch it and get her out, but if i am lazy i will try to ignore it and hope it leaves to a different room in the house - perhaps help it with a few aimed shots (with out squashing it).
I will probably squash it or kill it with bug spray if it is not a regular fly but a mosquito or other bad flying insects.

I can't stand when a fly gets in my house! I think they are so dirty and can't stand the thought of them walking on any of our things. I will always try and swat them. Then I go crazy cleaning everything that I saw it on. I have heard (don't know if it is true) that everytime a fly lands on something it tries to lay eggs. Yuck!!! Just think of how many times a fly has landed on your food, especially when eating outside!

I usually ignore such petty things like fly. They do not stay much longer at one place and fly away outside the house through window so nothing much to bother about them. But I do not like mosquitoes. They are really irritating and harmful so I kill them.

This is funny a fly just flew in about 5 minutes ago. Buzzing around I usually try and kill it because the buzzing bothers me so much. It ended up landing on the door and I just opened it and it flew out. I got rid of it fast.

They only live for about 24 hours, so it'll die within a day. But it could also lay eggs, too! It's nearly impossible to keep your house entirely clear of flies all the time, so swat at it if it comes near you, or if it's by a window or a door you could open that and try to shoo it out.
