Hi friends both ways of learning JAVA is good by books and video tutorials or by by utilizing JCreator and web.
For books http://javajeeresources.blogspot.com/ you can have a look at this site.
for video tutorials http://www.javavideotutes.com/.
Now come up to the other part JCreator is a s/w which provide you a list of fns supplied by JAVA. Easy to use. And whenever you need a thing just search for it on web you can have class for it. It is basically hit and trial method. But quite useful.
I suggest for beginning go for first then try to utilize the other.
happy mylotting.

Since you're an IT student, it's better to start with a Beginner's book. Most Java Beginner books would handle relaying to you the overview of the subject on the first few pages. It would also most likely have good exercises that you can try on your own just to see that you get the idea of the code they're teaching you. I suggest you get something from Deitel and Deitel - it's the book we used on our first year. Good luck!
Thanks for the response on my discussion :)

Yes. I have been reading on them online, but to have a hardbound copy would also be pretty good setup for fast references.Thanks.

If you really like to have a hardbound copy then try JAVA complete refrence or JAVA - how to program both the books are more than just helpful.
