I think that playing the lottery is a sin... Its gambling... But what about the Publishers Clearing House? I wish that I could win $100,000 a week for a year... That 5.2 million... One half of that goes to taxes... The other half... Tithing, Life insurance, retirement plans, college funds for kids, more college for spouse and myself. Start my own business, my own social work agency.... Pay off our bills, buy a new house, pay it off.Employ many social workers and other minorities. I want educate kids in the inner cities and other disadvantaged homes... I want to start a mentorship that would mentor boys of color... I desire this... WHy wont God give me the desires of my heart?

I am sorry that I have a differnt opinion. I think lottery is the only think which helps a very poor person to become a millionare. Nothing else will do that. It is not the mistake of person that he is born in a poor family. If he is lucky he can win a lottery and live a rich life and give good education to his children.

Its okay to have a different opinion. Nothing to feel sorry for. But one is any better off if he becomes a millionaire, and has two million dollars in bills. I want to have much more money coming in than going out. I want God to bless me. I want God to give me a successful business. God has more ideas in his little finger that can turn 25 cents into 25 million... I just want that blessing. I want to be a blessing.

I am not asking you to judge. The bible says that gambling is a sin. The lottery is gambling. So playing the lottery is a sin.

Look at it in a clear view. I remember reading in Proverbs that God measure's the hearts of men. For one if you're speaking in a Christian doctrine of the matter then for God knowing the thoughts of man, he tests their craftiness in such and it all depends the intentions of why a person plays the lottery. I see it this way though because it is common sense, one can win the lottery yet have a good intention, a good karma, if they choose to put that money for good use. One can help their family, pay their debt, open up a business, help the poor, help out their families that are in need, give to charity, give a donation and so forth. And I always say it is better to live a low life (even though being rich) then to be with the ignorant fools who are rich. However it creates a bad karma for people let's say they win the lottery, become millionaires and forget where they came from because they too lived a life of struggle trying to make money day by day. They end up putting down people who aren't rich, they mock the poor, they are ignorant and arrogant. Of course such people such as these waste their money like water, but end up in the pits of their own foolishness. That's wisdom and knowledge right there. Playing the lottery is a choice, luck of the draw and has nothing to do with sin or disobeying God.

As it is, religions out there can call it a sin or not a sin. That's like what you said is just an opinion, but not a proven fact! It's like some people disapprove to eat pork, while some religions do eat pork. Or some religions disapprove of playing instruments in Church, while some of them do. Well as it is, if some religions don't play the lottery, then that's their choice.

Lottery is not a sin, its a good cause that can help charitys and people around the world. Yes it can be seen as greed and i understand that may be a sin. But you have to think of the bigger picture of these things and not just look at peopeles greed. They are negatives and positives to every action in life, be it GOOD or Evil. :-)

The lottery is not a sin, and if you win, you just have to know to avoid the lottery curse. Once you win the lottery get a financial advisor and do not play the lottery all of the time, only play when you think you have enough money to play it. As it says on the California Lottery Commericals "Be responsible!".

i dont think personally that the lottery is a sin i think is in how you use it.. i mean if it consumes you and you blow all your money on it then yeah it could be a sin depending on your views.. anyways i think publishers clearing house is more of a "raffle" so there shouldnt be in sin issues with your beliefs unless you believe contests and raffles are wrong..

I don´t think it´s apropiate to mix God with lottery. Lottery is man made. And, let´s not say one thing for another, we all would be VERY happy if we won it. I think it´s a worse sin (although I don´t believe in sins) to put words into God´s mouth.

I am not putting words in God's mouth. God said that "an inheritance gained hurriedly in the beginning will not be blessed in the end." Proverbs 20:21

There are no good works that can get us into Heaven. We have to depend on the cross and Jesus dying on that cross. He was the lamb that was sacrificed for us so that we might be worthy. His blood is what cleanses us.

Gambling is sinful. I ve seen guys spend more than half their monthly wages on trying to win big only to lose it all.Families are broken ,dreams are shattered. God will give help to those who need it.Just have Faith. He's god. He knows.

Unfortunately you are asking for something almost everyone wants and only a small few people will ever obtain. We can all think of the good money will do us, but I think it's better to be happy without it, otherwise not having it will make you unhappy.

I believe that the lottery is a sin, because it is gambling. My stepfather just lost his job. He, my mother and stepsister are barely surviving. He has been able to work for a temp agency day-to-day, but he has been taking his daily pay and spending it on lottery tickets. Then there is nothing left for my mother to add to their income to pay bills. He is addicted and it is ruining their family. God owns everything we have. He owns all the earth and it is by His power and blessing that we wake up each morning and have the ability to make money. Every spending decision should be a spiritual one, because the money we make is not our own. We should be good stewards of the blessings God has given us. God uses money as a tool to accomplish His work and it is also what He uses to provide for His children's needs. God also uses money as a test. "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Whatever we spend our money on is what we treasure. Most instant millionaires are broke within 2 years, because they aren't good stewards of their winnings. Life goes on whether you have a lot of money or a little. Success & happiness are not tied to the amount of money we have, but success & happiness are determined by our attitude toward money and how we spend it. You can be wealthy, but not a good steward of your wealth, be in debt up to your eyeballs and miserable. You can have limited income, but give money to God's work, give to charity, pay all of your bills on time, provide for your family, take care of your responsibilities, have a little money in savings, and sometimes even a little money for fun and that to me is success and happiness. There are always more choices for spending money than there is money to spend whether you are rich or poor. The amount makes little difference, but what you do with it makes all the difference in the world. If you are a good steward of your current blessings, the Lord will bless you with more. If He can't trust you with a little, He will not give you more to squander. God has a perfect will and timing. If you trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding, He will direct your paths. He will give you the desires of your heart in His timing and will. We are not all-knowing and we cannot see the future. If He gave you what you wanted right this very instance, there could be some circumstance that you can't see that would jeapardize or ruin your chance to be successful at that desire of your heart. Try praying for God to direct what you do with the money you have in the meantime. Seek His Word and His will and you may find that you are richer than you think and I am sure He will bless you for the patience, understanding and faithfulness you show Him.

If something that you do bothers your conscience- that, in my opinion, is sin. A lot of people are playing the lottery and we must presume that half of them think that they are sinning and half of them don't think so... As for your question why God doesn't give you what you ask, only He can answer that.

If gambling is a sin then why do some churches hold bingo in their hall? Bingo is still gambling, after all. Personally, I see nothing wrong with gambling as long as it is done so responsibly. I myself play the lottery every once in a while. A dollar here, a dollar there. I probably spend about $20 a year at the most, so it's not like I'm breaking the bank. And as the saying goes, you can't win if you don't play. Okay, so chances are I won't win as the odds are so great, but I'm willing to risk a dollar every now and then. And who knows, maybe one day I'll hit the jackpot! (A girl can dream, can't she? )

Hi sahm35! I dont think it really matters what anybody thinks because in the end whatever the Bible says goes. It does not matter whether you beleive in God or sins or heaven or hell or whatever , the Bible and God still exist and you cant just ignore him. Just because someone ignores God it does'nt mean that God ingnores them. People just make themselves think that they have a choice because they just dont care, are to lazy to care or just dont want to change but the reality is that you dont have choice! Happy Mylotting! P.S. And according to the Bible it is a sin, no matter if it's just one dollar or a thousand.
