hi, this is a great question, thank you! i write poetry. i have submitted poetry to poetry.com and have a few that got published in books and spoken on cd. here is one poem:
We Come from the Stars
Before the glowing light enveloped me,
I flew into a great unknown.
Blasted into heaven,
I feel no fear.
Endless planets from a point of no perspective awe me.
Time is a moment and I stand alone.
I close my eyes.
Pray, the voice tells me.
Pray, the voice has told me
since this dream began.
I become the white light
streaming with love.
I am an endless everything
connected to you.
White light, white light, white light.
We are made of the stars.
White light, white light, white light.
We are made of the stars.
By Karen DeLeary, this is the poem that is spoken on cd.

That is so beautiful. I am sure when spoken with the right tenor, it would have been magical. Welcome to this space. And thanks for sharing

I want to call myself a poet, my writting gets better when I am in a miserable mood that's when all my feelings and mind opens to almost anything.

That's true of me too, and that makes most of my writing kind of morbid.

ABANDONED....
in the dark alley of the bow daved point
i grieve in silence of great dispair;
flashes of dispondent occurance
views the splitting shadows of light;
a reminiscence of the past
invoked by sorrow and pain;
over powerd by fate.......
darkness had met the light
and time had come out....
even for the last tym
for that final lingering
draw of breath;
abandoned by fate.......
i wrote dis one wen i was in high school and i publish this one in our publisity newspaper in our school...

Cool. I have written just one song in Hindi (and composed the tune for it too). But mostly I write in English. Have written close to 500 pieces in the last couple of years. More than the writing, I love reading poetry. So, if you would like to share, I'd be glad to read and tell you what I feel.
You said you used to write. Why the past tense? Why did you stop writing? Speaking for myself, I can't either start or stop at will. Sometimes there is something in the head that is aching to come out, and then i just have to write it.
Anyhow, nice to know you. Cheers and take care.

I am an aspiring poet. I don't know much about it yet, but I would love to learn from others.

Thanks for the response! You're right, I should just start writing. I think that's what keeps a lot of people from writing, the feeling that they don't know how or what to write about. I just read a book, a children's book really, about writing poetry called, "Immersed in Verse." I learned a lot from it. Thanks for the encouragement. I will write and not worry about critiquing it! BTW, I'm a professional editor, so I come by it honestly! LOL

Cool. That would be great to just start out and see where the path takes you. And you have a lot going by way of being an editor. I do hope to see some of your writing here soon. All the very best.

I don't believe you should let 'learning' take away what is YOU in your writing. My belief is that poetry is an expression. And expressions are very personal. As such poetry and writing styles should also be very individual to you. I'd recommend that you write what you FEEL rather than trying to write POETRY. That, of course, is my personal opinion.

All snuggled in bed tucked in by mommy and daddy

Daddy reads The Night Before Christmas while
his children listen quietly as there eyes slowly close
they drift off to dreamland with toys and candy
dancing through there little heads.Mommy and Daddy
quietly slip out of the room.
A Childs Christmas Wish
Amy wishes for a new baby doll, that she can hold and hug
CJ wishes for a new dump truck that he can fill with dirt
and push through the winter snow
Misti wishes for a box of CD's that she can listen to all
day
Tiffany wishes for a new purse to carry all her
precious stuff around in
Jessica wishes for a new video tape of her favorite shows
A Childs Christmas Wish
All snuggled in bed tucked in by mommy and daddy. The children
all dream of what they will find when they wake up on xmas morn........

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your poem. It's that time of the year now with Christmas just over a month away. Given that, I do believe your poem is apt for the spirit that is in the air now. :-)

Hi, I am a writer and my very first book is just coming into the bookstores. It is a book of short stories and poems. I have always loved writing, but never found the courage until now at the age of 56 with this book. This is one of my poems:
A Clear Spring Day
On a clear spring day when the sun is so bright
You can see the trees budding and the baby leaves start
The air is so warm and fresh and so nice,
when you take a deep breath you get a natural high!
Your feel so darn good and so full of life
It is hard not to feel like a child inside
The little birds sing such a happy sweet song, that you may just join in with a song of your own!
The sun hits you face with a warm soft touch
And the warm breezes blow and you enjoy it so much
The sound of new bugs and bees flying around,
So soothing to hear after endless months of snow on the ground
The grass is getting greener with each day that goes by,
and the new flowers do pop up from the ground like a sign
Little child voice sounds coming from across the way,
they're laughing and joking and playing this day
Spring is for renewal of all living things
New plants and new animal all start in the spring
Is it not any wonder that the Lord made us spring?
So we would have a special time to start new beginnings
From small baby bunnies to large wooly bears, and a deer fawn so pretty and a red fox so fair
A chipmunk is claiming his tree for a home,
and his chattery warning is as loud as they come
I know that the other three seasons are important
For we would miss them so much every year without them.

Here's a nonsense limmerick I enjoy sharing.
APRIL FOOLS
When April Fool's come round
You'll hope you can't be found
I'll laugh and giggle abound
Never able to guess how
I aquired the orange cow
And I won't tell you now
You must be going wild
To be blessed with a child
Who's humor is more than mild

Teach me half the gladness
That thy brain must know;
Such harmonious madness
From my lips would flow,
The world should listen then, as I am listening now
