Why do you like the Gap?

Can anyone explain this to me? I've never really understood why people LOVE the Gap so much. What exactly is it about the brand? Me and my sister were discussing it the other day and we decided that their things just look too.. plain! So other than being ridiculously expensive, what else does the Gap have going for it?
If you shop there, why?
If you don't..Why not?

I have been to the Gap, once, and I never bought anything there because I thought that they were grossly over priced. Would I eve shop there? No way. I shop at Ross, Wal*Mart, KMart, or any other store where I can find clothes that look good on me and fit me and are not horribly over priced. I don't care about brand names because if the jeans do not fit me then they are not worth buying.

Kudos to you for being so practical. I feel the same way. If a pair of jeans from Target (that cost $20) are cuter and fit better than Gap's $80 jeans, why not?! It's annoying that some people will ONLY buy a brand because of it's...brand rather than quality, look, and comfort. *shrugs*.
And I agree with you - I think I've been in Gap only like 2 or 3 times in the past 10 years.
Thanks for responding! I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I agree their clothes are plain and expensive. I've never owned anything from there.

My first impressions of Gap were that all the clothes were quite plain and safe. I don't shop at gap because I prefer clothes that are a bit more bold in design and colour.
But some of my friends feel quite intimidated wearing colours so they find gap a good place to shop for clothes. Essentially the clothes are safe and often neutral colours, so they allow you to blend in, and don't make you stand out. I think that is why they do so well as a retailer.
You could easily put on a pair of gap jeans and a t-shirt without giving your outfit much thought. Gap clothes are simple and some people just like their wardrobes to be plain and simple.
