With all the disgruntled discussions taking place around here on mylot and worldwide about the various presidents, Prime Ministers or whatever title is given to the leader of your country the idea just struck me...
If we could choose, which leader of another country would we want to lead our own country.
All over the world eaders are in trouble. The citizens of their country are not pleased with them.
Gordon Browne - England,
President Obama - America,
The canadian PM,
The Pm of my country - Bruce Golding,
Iran's returned President
and the list goes on and on...
Personally I do not believe my PM is doing too badly. I liked the leader of the opposition but that faith in her and her team took a nose dive and they have not impressed me so far. Its a case of selecting the best of the bunch.
I have no idea who I would maybe replace Mr Golding with at the moment. Every leader seems to be having a hard time pleasing their citizens and dealing with the global financial crisis.
What about you... How disgruntled are you with your country's leader and which leader from another country do you think you would maybe like to see lead your country?

As we are from the same country that we onviously love so much. then I am not sure that I should reply to this discussion as I have a son who is in politics. I know that you will understand. However, this is an excellent post, dear friend. Really unique. I would not choose anyone else in the world to lead our country as the person has to come from the citizens. Not even Mr. Obama could straighten us out.
What I would like to see is more of a colalition whereby the best person is chosen for the job regardless of which party he supports. I would like to see a coaltion for at least five years.
I am not for our PM but I do not think that the leader of the Opposition can do the job either!
I do not see anyone in the present government that could do the job and only one person in the opposition who maybe could do it. Individual Ministers I admire, for example Minister Andrew Holness is doing an amazing job, and I have so much respect for him. But he is not a leader.
I do not see any other leader wanting to take us on and would not want a leader outside of our country to lead us - I think that is my bottom line. Blessings

My dear Cynthiann, what I would like more than anythings else is for us to be given the chance to select from both parties the persons who mean our country well and are capable of delivering.
I really love Minister Holness as well. My choices would also include our Agricultural minister, Desmond Mckenzie (only a person of a touch character could do his job and we need a few more to straighten out all the underhanded things which have been taking place here over the years).
I really liked the opposition leader and Mr Kern Spencer and they had formerly made it to my list. I hope the youth arms of each party will yield leaders who are really worthy of leading our country. And may I add a weeeeeeelllllllllll needed effective security minister.
I am tierd of this Jewel being spoilt by politics, politicians and criminals.
I am curious as to who your son might be .

My son is not an elected MP and I am sorry if I gave that impression. He is heavy behind the scene and may run, if selected, for MP in the next General Election.I think that he will be selected. I don't like it but I support my children in what they want to do. He feels that a new breed of people with integrity should be elected and I say Amen to that.
Kern Spencer is a family friend so I cannot and would not discuss him especially as his case will be coming up.
What I will say that is more than disappointing to me is that the previous government - or members of it - certainly not all - became corrupt and now this government had followed suit but the stories have yet to be told.
I'm old and I know and knew them all on both sides off the fence from Mr. Shearer to the present day. Blessings sweetie pie

Just like you, our country Philippines is not exempted from having a dissatisfied citizens with regards to how our country is managed by our political leaders. Our incumbent President, Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo, herself the daughter of our former President Diosdado Macapagal, had been accused for massive corruption, mishandling of public funds among others, but in my own observation, though our country is experiencing a depressing political division and the unresolved conflicts between government troops and insurgencies, we are always happy with how our lives managed to cope up all the misery in our environment. Our economy is doing well under Arroyo's administration compared to the previous Presidents, we are also not fully affected with the recession that hits the globe.
Everywhere, people have frustrations and disappointments towards their government, maybe because of some expectations which our leaders failed to achieve. I don't think foreign leaders would manage to handle Philippines the way we expected because, we have a distinct traditions and customs which are unique from other races, and foreigners might have a hard time understanding our characters and traits. Even if whoever sit in the Presidency of our country, if our attitude towards progress and change won't go with the demand of time, then we will never never achieve and see what we want in our country.
