It's very simple to do. ll you need to do is visit http://www.whatsmyip.org/ and you will see your IP address displayed at the top of the page. There really isn't much else to say as this is the easiest way to do it.

No site should need to ask for your IP address. They should be able to see it automatically on their server logs. When you send them an email, it is included in the header of the email.
I would be very suspicious of most sites that ask for your IP address unless they have a good and logical reason for doing so.

It occured to me when I saw the word 'pursue' that you are, perhaps, having problems with your membership of a site. Many sites don't allow more than one account from one IP address. If you have a home network with more than one computer on it, the IP address that they see may be the same from both computers (even if they are both in use at the same time). Your network is able to sort out which computer on the network any particular connection belongs to (because the PCs on the network have identifying numbers internally, a bit like room numbers in an apartment block.

It is an easy thing to do. Just go to this website : http://www.lawrencegoetz.com/programs/ipinfo/ and find out :)
An IP is a unique address with which every surfer and server get as an ID on the internet. You can read more about it here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_address
