Most of the times I find it convenient to put my laptop on a standby after the day's work. It also saves me a lot of time - the shut down time involving the closing of all open applications and the startup the next day.
I don't know if there are any disadvantages if you don't shutdown it everyday, but when I continue the standby process for more than 5 days, the system becoms slow.

I personally leave my computer on all the time I don't shut it down. but I have a money making program running 24/7 so that is why I don't shut it down

I don't shut down my PC everyday instead I put it on hibernation. hibernation allows the computer to start from the very same spot that I left it from instead of loading all the Windows system files again and again which actually increases the booting time.

If you have to run many large-scale software programms everyday,it really seems helpful for you to keep your laptop standby instead of shutting it down. But i dont think that the little time for startup is more valuable than the energy wasted to keep the laptop standby. As for the system's becoming slow after keeping laptop standby for five days,i think it is very normal since the operating
system' s resources have been consumed after running so long time.

I always turn both my laptop and my desktop off when i am not using them, because even if it is just a few watts they still use energy when in standby, i don't know if leaving them on for all that time could be any wrong for the hardware, but anyway i don't see why wasting energy just to gain half a minute when i turn it on again.
I don't know why it gets slower if you don't turn it off, i didn't know this side effect.

Hmm, i usually shut down my computer because though it takes a while to startup after shutdown, it is better because you're saving energy and also because it make makes the computer faster. Oh and i believe that leaving it on standby might damage your computer- because of heat but im not sure
