I frequently encountered a spark when I plug the AC chord of my laptop.
I know sparks are dangerous to most electronic devices but I don't have any idea how to avoid it. Is this normal and do laptops are totally protected on this. This happens at an instant when I connect the device to main outlet.
What do you think is main cause of this?

Try turning off the power before plugging in your laptop, then turning it on again. this way, it will be safer for the laptop and you. also, you should try getting a technician to look at your circuit breaker. either it spoiled or it's faulty.

There had been a few times when my laptop was connected to the plug and when I plugged it in to the out let it sparked, so what I do is plug the plug into the outlet and then connect it to my laptop. i have not encountered any more problems doing it this way and when I want to run off the battery to save money I just unplug it from the back of the computer. Hope this helps.

Generally your Laptop would have some kind of surge protection but never-the-less it is still not good.
If your main outlet has a switch then you should connect all cables when the switch is in the off position but if you are in one of these countries where the outlet is always live then make sure that you connect all cables before connecting to the mains outlet.
