Do teachers still command respect?

Teaching is indeed a very noble and prophetic profession. Teachers are very respectable for us. But in this modern age where we witness sharp decline in moral values, teachers seems to be losing their respect they deserve from society. What do you think?

I believe that if we want to be respected by others, then we must learn to respect ourselves first. Being a teacher, we MUST always demand respect from the students but we should not scare them just to have them respect us because it would not be respect anymore but fear. I am approaching my kid with a sisterly attitude (since I am still young compared to their ages, 5 - 8 years older only) but even though I am nice to them, they still know their limitations and place. I believe those teachers not being respected by others such as their students is because they are letting others treat them disrespectfully or they are doing things to be disrespected by others. I can proudly say that me and my colleagues, wherever we are, even if they don't know we're teachers, are being respected since they can see that we respect ourselves too.

Yes, indeed. Respect is reciprocal. If teachers are honest, loving, dedicated and commmitted to their profession, they will surely command respect. Their respect is in their own hands. They must realise that their profession is noble and prophetic one and deal it accordingly

Here in the Philippines I am very to say that teachers are sometimes not being respected by students. And I am not very happy with it because being a teacher is not a profession but a vocation. Teachers mold the students to become a better individual. They are our second parents as the cliche always say. So it is indeed that they must be treated with respect and kindness.

You are right. Teachers are our spiritual parents. They must be respected and given their due status in society. What do you suggest they do to improve their prestige and respect? Thank you very much for your response.
